Finally got around to decorating the tree tonight. Are you a tinsel guy/girl? Cause I’m a tinsel guy.
–UPSET–Oklahoma 72, No. 18 Gonzaga 68. Oh, Jeremy Pargo, I’m afraid you lost it for your team in the final minute of this game. In case you missed it, Pargo tried to be a little too heroic, and, well, things didn’t really turn out so well for him. Two turnovers and zero points later, the Sooners get a great win. If Gonzaga wants to be taken seriously as a title contender this year, these are the types of games they have to win. The Bulldogs’ three losses: Texas Tech, Washington State and now Oklahoma. Biggest win? I guess it’s a “neutral” “W” that they just barely got over UConn in Boston a couple of weekends ago. Now their game against Tennessee next weekend looms large as a “statement game”.
–No. 11 Pittsburgh 65, No. 6 Duke 64 (OT). I think we’ve covered this one pretty well already.
–No. 7 Washington State 67, The Citadel 45. All Wazzu faithful hail Aron Baynes. He’s becoming as important of a player as Derrick Low (who actually only contributed six points and two assists) for the Cougars. The odd stat here? Zero offensive rebounds for Washington State, and they only forced eight turnovers the whole game. So what did in The Citadel? Thirty-three percent shooting from the floor. Love that defense.
–No. 15 Clemson 90, Puerto Rico-Mayaguez 73. The Tigers avoid a potential land mine. They face DePaul tonight, then a big game against Ole Miss on Saturday. Keep an eye on it.
–No. 22 Miami (FL) 85, North Florida 63. I was about ready to go deep into the box score of this game and see who is continuing to play well for Miami, and make a case that they’re legitimate. But..North Florida now stands as a proud 1-9 team, so I’ll wait just a little while longer on the ‘Canes.
Notable:
Mississippi 69, DePaul 63. The Rebs have moved to 9-0 and appear to be on a collision course with the also-undefeated Clemson Tigers on Saturday.
Creighton 88, North Carolina Central 54. Blue Jays are 8-1. Look out.
Miami (OH) 61, Illinois 58 (OT). A home loss to the MAC? Boy, the Big 10 could be even weaker than many pundits thought. Miami has had as bad of an identity problem as any team so far this season.
Oral Roberts 74, Oklahoma State 59. The Cowboys just aren’t that good this year. Oral Roberts, meanwhile, well they’ve put up a good fight against one of the best teams out there in Texas on Tuesday, then come back to get a Big XII win. Good for the Golden Eagles.
