In case you were oblivious to it, there is a bevy of beautiful games slated for Saturday and Sunday. I won’t wax poetic about it, but rather give you a list of the notable ones, with a little anecdotal comment next to each one!
-
No. 5 Georgetown @ No. 2 Memphis (Noon ET). Biggest game of the weekend. Biggest game of the college basketball season to date. A top 5 matchup in December? Well, that’s rare, and certainly a delicious Christmas Eve Eve Eve treat.
-
Holy Cross @ Siena (1 ET). Yes, it’s a battle of potential 13-seeds! Both of these teams are quality.
-
No. 12 Tennessee @ Xavier (2 ET). The currently unranked Musketeers have a great opportunity to steal a game from a Volunteer team that doesn’t quite seem up to par so far this season. Then again, if Bruce Pearl’s team gets a win in Cincinnati, perhaps Xavier will get a touch of the overrated dust sprinkled on themselves.
-
Western Kentucky @ Southern Illinois (3 ET). WKU is no pushover (far from it, in fact) and this is a game that the Salukis absolutely need.
-
Texas-Arlington @ Oklahoma State (3 ET). UT-A is 8-1. The Cowboys are 5-5. This is definitely what you’d call an “ego game” for both clubs.
-
Stanford @ Texas Tech (4:30 ET). The Cardinal have big man Brook Lopez back, and apparently playing fairly well. Bobby Knight’s Red Raiders could really use this kind of win on the resume.
-
Mississippi @ No. 15 Clemson (5:30 ET). Two unexpected undefeated teams. The game takes place in Puerto Rico, so Ole Miss’ team will absolutely blend in with the culture.
-
No. 4 Texas @ No. 9 Michigan State (6:30 ET). Oh, and a top 10 game to boot? Excellent! If Michigan State can pull off the home win against the Longhorns, that could make seeding a little more interesting for the Selection Committee.

I’m actually more excited for the Texas game to be honest. That seems like it will be the best one of them all
Very disapointed that UConn-Maine was not the Student Section Supports Game of the Week.
Hah. As I would expect Connecticut to win by 25, I’m sorry, I had to pass on that temptation.
