Welcome, conference play.
–No. 1 North Carolina 90, Kent State 61. I bothered to watch a half of this basketball game. What a waste. I appreciate Psycho T more and more though. I will admit that I thought he was overrated as recently as November, but I have to be a believer now. Have to. Hansbrough delivered his mandatory 2o+ plus point (had 25) and the ‘Heels continue to turn their bench into something that will be a weapon. It’s quite evident that Williams is planning now on how to replace an asset like Frasor for March.
–No. 11 Indiana 79, Iowa 76. A Big 10 result you’d expect? Not really. Iowa gives Indiana quite the game despite Flash Gordon’s 25 and D.J. White’s 15 boards (and man is that becoming something you expect every game).
–No. 13 Pittsburgh 96, Lafayette 75. A brief few minutes of hesitation for Pitt fans I’m sure when the team kind of let Lafayette hang around. Nonetheless, the Field-less Panthers get a win that, if anything, gives them a little bit of mo’.
–No. 14 Texas 67, Texas Christian 59. TCU isn’t that bad, but was this a little closer than it needed to be? It’d be funny, what with all of the “Texas is better without Durant!” drivel, if this team kind of sizzles down the stretch. A 33 percent shooting night from the Horned Frogs was probably their grim reaper.
–No. 18 Mississippi 86, Alabama A&M 50. Still undefeated are the Rebs after this shellacking. But will it be their last win before their first loss? Nothing new to report here aside from that, just getting ready for that big Tennessee game that’s less than a week away.
–No. 20 Dayton 83, Akron 81 (2OT). WOW. Perhaps the Flyers were a little full of themselves coming off the Pitt game? Not likely; Akron is a 10-win team already. The Flyers have won 11 in-a-row and are the A10′s hottest team.
–No. 23 Rhode Island 94, Farleigh Dickinson 63. They may be 23 in the AP Poll, but they cracked the top 20, did the Rams in this week’s BlogPoll. Keep on proving us right, Rhodey. They are 14-1, so wake up, people, and reckuhnize these kids.
–No. 25 Wisconsin 70, Michigan 54. The Badgers are better than the Wolverines.
Notable:
Massachusetts 95, Houston 89. This was a very nice non-con game on a night that saw many conferences open up intra-league play. Could it be worth a seed line? Sure could, along the lines of a 9-10 difference, which would be a very big difference, as you know. A very well-balanced attack by both teams in this game, and this is the exact kind of score you could have anticipated. Gary Forbes led the Minutemen with 19 points.
New Mexico 86, Texas-El Paso 85 (OT). Apparently a great game, and one that I wish I saw. New Mexico is now an impressive 13-2, while UTEP isn’t too shabby either (9-3). The teams combined for a shocking 43 points in what must’ve been a hair-on-fire overtime session.
Western Michigan 79, North Carolina Central 43. NCC is 1-18…daaaamn. Nineteen games this early into this season? No wonder.
Indiana State 62, Creighton 54. The Blue Jays jump out to a blazing 0-2 start in the MVC…the room for error is getting smaller and smaller, and not just for Creighton, but for a lot of mids, it seems. Indiana State is only 7-5, but starts off 2-0 in the league.
Drake 61, Southern Illinois 51. Staying in the MVC…got to loooove the Drake! They move to 11-1, and Southern Illinois’ season now rests upon the hopes of catching fire in the MVC tournament in order to get a bid; they are now a shocking 6-7.
Georgia State 66, George Mason 64. That might shut Mason’s at-large door.
