If you only knew my Tuesday…
–No. 3 Kansas 90, Loyola (MD) 60. Sherron Collins led the Jayhawks with 18. This thing was over eight minutes into the game.
–No. 6 Michigan State 78, Purdue 75. This was probably the best game of the night. Hand it to Purdue for almost getting a great, great win on the road, but the Spartans are just too much talent for the Boilers to steal one in this spot. The game was 75-74 Purdue, but Travis Walton saved MSU, hitting a big jumper then grabbing a rebound and making his free throws to give the Spartans the win. From the AP story: “Players play, tough players win,” Izzo said, repeating one of his favorite sayings. “The toughest team lost by a couple of points tonight, and that wasn’t us.”
–No. 7 Georgetown 76, DePaul 70. A 21-point halftime lead disintegrated for the Hoyas, who were definitely looking for Roy Hibbert all night. Hibbert had 17, 11 and even five assists in the game. I’d give him more credit, but DePaul just didn’t have anyone to truly matchup with the big man.
–No. 10 Indiana 78, Michigan 64. Good TV game, but not really that good of a game at all. Michigan fans were into it, but IU had this one from the get-go. How about D.J. White though? TWENTY TWO rebounds! He’s really becoming a force, while Flash Gordon pumped in his jersey number (23) in points. Indiana is now 13-1.
–No. 15 Marquette 61, Seton Hall 56. This one was looking like it had serious upset potential until Dominic James was fouled hard and hit the deck with less than eight minutes to go. That swung the pendulum Marquette’s way, for sure.
Notable:
Wake Forest 79, Brigham Young 62. Perhaps a real litmus test of what both teams really are. I think I have been underrating Wake, all the while putting BYU on a higher pedestal than they belong.
Florida 90, Alabama 83. Hey, the Gators are now 16 games into their schedule and have only lost two of those games. Not the toughest of tall orders is Florida’s skedge, but I’m impressed at the start. Good confidence boosting win in their first SEC road trip of the season last night.
