–No. 7 Tennessee 93, Alabama 86. If ‘Bama had been able to keep this game a little slower, with less points, then they might have been able to steal it. Problem is, when you’re combining for more than 160 points in a game against Tennessee, you’re probably not going to win. Hey: maybe Tennessee isn’t the team we thought they were, but they’re definitely the best in the SEC (which isn’t saying a lot).
–No. 17 Marquette 62, South Florida 54. A yawner, but as a college basketball fan I’m just glad that the Golden Eagles didn’t vomit this one away. Man, I thought they were going to be a lot better than they’ve turned out. Sophomore Lazar Hayward (and if this is where you’re going to be getting production, Marquette, then it’s a problem) had a career-best 23 and 8.
–George Mason 63, Virginia Commonwealth 51. Big game last night in the Association. Yeah, that Association! The one with the colonials. GMU is now 7-3 in conference with the win; VCU is 8-2. Will Thomas, who was a member of that great Mason Final Four squad in ‘05, brought his monster game: 21 points and 15 rebounds.
–Wake Forest 70, Miami 68. The ACC continues to muddle itself. Jeff Teague, a freshman guard you’ve probably never heard of, had his coming out party, scoring 27 points for Wake. Prior to Tuesday’s game Teague had been averaging 10/game.
–Virginia Tech 89, Florida State 80. Who’s the better team? It’s gotta be the Hokies (4-3), who now fidn themselves in a nice little race for third in the ACC standings. We’re about due for that big Florida State win which will misguide their fans into believing that they deserve an NCAA bid.
–Loyola (MD) 72, N.J.I.T. 54. N.J.I.T. is probably not going to win one game this year. I love it.
