Last night was the greatest Super Bowl of all time. A quick note: My entire house was filled with friends who are Giants (four of them being roommates) fans. I really almost want to take pictures of the living room, dining room and kitchen and post them this morning. What unbridled delirium last night. Amazing stuff. As for next year: Go Bears.
–No. 4 North Carolina 84, Florida State 73 (OT). FSU was able to squeak out the game to overtime despite almost certainly handing it over to UNC in the final three minutes. The gamew as Heels: 67, ‘Noles: 64 from about the 1:10 minute mark until :10 seconds remained. That’s when Ryan Reid (all 6-foot-9 of him) hit a 3—the first of his college career—and seemingly gave FSU all the mojo they could need to steal another one against an ACC Goliath on their home floor. Yeah, right. Let’s face it: Carolina is on a collision course with San Antonio. Hansbrough tops his own mark of 21 rebounds to get a new career high. He’s probably going to win Player of the Year, so let’s just accept it.
–No. 11 Indiana 75, Northwester 63. Flash Gordon had 29, D.J. White had 13 and nothing quite rubs off the stink of a two-game losing streak like the Northwestern Wildcats.
–No. 13 Wisconsin , Minnesota . The Badgers are 18-3 and in a fight to take the Big Ten’s regular season crown (but a rematch with Purdue on Saturday is looming).
Notable:
North Carolina State 67, Wake Forest 65. How good—really—are both of these teams? Wake is 13-7, N.C. State is 14-7. Both are 3-4 in the ACC. Both appear to be playing just bad enough to keep them out of The Tournament. Although, for my own interest, I do hope that one of them can muster up enough good play to sneak in, so I can pick them to lose in the first round (which would probably be as close to a lock as there is right now).
