As everyone well knows by now, ESPN has hit an absolute television gold mine by having their broadcast of College Gameday take place at Indiana University this Saturday as it coincides with the less-than-startling news of Kelvin Sampson’s love for his cellphone plan.
That deafening roar on Bristol’s door is Opportunity. I have to implore The Jug to get Kelvin Sampson (every other Gameday has a lighthearted interview with a coach) interviewed TONIGHT if possible to talk about whatever he can or is willing to. (I don’t expect him to willingly go live on set tomorrow to talk about this.)
This is college basketball at one of the premier programs in the country. It’s big business and it’s a hot media topic. If ESPN merely details the accusations, talks about his murky past/future and the state of college basketball coaching and recruiting WITHOUT having Sampson discuss what he’s done, then they deserve more criticism than they normally get.
Bilas, you were all over that Bobby Knight story. I expect you to be in a dimly lit room and asking tough questions to Sampson and really asking questions like, “Did you really think you were obeying the rules by participating in these phone calls?”
I want more than the predicted puppet act of Sampson criticisms that will be coming out of those four guys’ mouths.

What a great point. I just don’t see it happening though. I don’t normally catch Gameday, but I’m going to tune in tomorrow to see how they handle this.
And where’s someone with a camcorder on Bobby Knight 24/7 through all of this!
