Winthrop just defeated UNC-Asheville 66-48 in the Big South tournament final to earn the second ticket to The Dance this season. (Cornell got the first via auto bid from winning the Ivy League.)
It’s the fourth-straight Tournament bid for the Eagles, and their eighth in the past 10 years. I know it would’ve been great to see that 7-foot-7 goof Kenny George try and keep up with someone like Memphis in the first round, but this Winthrop team will get a 13 or 14 seed, and could be a trendy upset pick if they were paired up with say, a Georgetown
Two more titles to hand out today from the Ohio Valley and the Atlantic Sun, just so ya know.
