Scoreboard: Conference Tournament Results

We’re down to 53 spots left to fill in The Tournament.

Big Sky semifinals:
No. 2 Northern Arizona 75, No. 3 Weber State 70. If they can get out of the conference tournament alive, Northern Arizona could be the gem Cinderella that no one will see coming.
No. 1 Portland State 72, No. 4 Idaho State 61
. It might be that kind of year for the Big Sky, which had Portland State picked to be the league champion in the presason.

Horizon championship:
No. 1 Butler 70, No. 2 Cleveland State 55. Bubble teams breath a sigh of relief. I’d love to see Butler get a 3, but a 4 seems more likely. Who are you rooting for most: Xavier, Butler or Drake? If I had to pick, I’m going with Xavier (because I think they are the only Final Four threat).

Mid-Eastern Athletic first round:
No. 7 Coppin State 55, No. 10 Howard 54
. Coppin State winning reminds me of middle school.
No. 8 South Carolina State 78, No. 9 Bethune-Cookman 69. South Carolina State winning reminds me of nothing.

Summit championship:
shawnking.jpgNo. 1 Oral Roberts 71, No. 2 IUPUI 64. Last year ORU was terribly mis-seeded as a 16. This year I think they’re deserving of a 14.

Sun Belt championship:
No. 3 Western Kentucky 67, No. 4 Middle Tennessee State 57. Usually there’s one or two mids who get a LOT of pub to upset in the first round. (I usually never pick with the crowd there.) I think the Towel Waivers will be one of those teams this year, but I don’t see WKU getting a win this year.

Western Athletic first round:
No. 8 San Jose State 64, No. 9 Louisiana Tech 62. I’m sure it was close, but I got nothin’.

Couldn’t agree with you more on Xavier. But we don’t have to let everyone else know that, too. It can be our secret.

Wasn’t Oral Roberts a #14 last year? I thought I remembered picking them to upset Wazzu in the first round, but they fell short…

Yes, they were a 14 last year – and a fairly popular pick to pull the upset on Wazzu.

I believe it was two years ago that they were a 16 against Kansas. The only reason I remember is because Dan Shanoff picked them to win that game.

    My apologies – I misremembered!
