Buzzer-Beaters: Northwestern State
I’m about to get some rest before the orgy of basketball tomorrow. There was a request for this one in the post below’s comments, so here ya go. This is probably the most underrated buzzer-beater (though it’s truly not a buzzer-beater) in Tournament history.
Refresh your memory: This was a game that was buried in the middle of the Friday afternoon in 2006, not seen by much of the country, but CBS cut into it just about the time when the video starts. I love it because Northwestern State missed the 3 then just shoots an absolutely impossible shot (fading away!) from the corner to awaken the crowd in the building. Then Verne Lundquist calls out the wrong school and it goes from special to hilariously wrong. Oh yeah … and on my life, I called this upset at the time.
I’m saying Top 5 game-winners in Tournament history due to seeding, shot difficulty and the fact that Iowa almost hit that prayer at the end.

Love it! Thanks.
Also, please post the TV Schedule, Announcer Pairings for 2nd round.
I printed out a couple sheets from your post of the 1st round schedule, for all my buddies. I was hoping Gus Johnson would announce for the BYU game: we’re just hoping BYU wins one single game, at least. It’s been awhile, since ’91 I believe? Tradition: everyone flies into Park City and we watch every single game. Miss work, miss school, no matter what.
I am so excited. These are the best 4 days of sports of the whole year.
Sweet stuff. I wish I had a group of friends dedicated like that, but I went to a smaller, D-III school.
CBS’ exact TV schedule isn’t out yet for the weekend because they’ll adjust it according to teams and how many games can be spread equally across the country. I do know that the Saturday early, solo game is starting around 2 this year (normally tips around 1) and that’ll probably be Duke-WVU/Zona winner, as Duke usually gets the pub to bring in eyes early.
Also, expect Carolina to get the last game of the weekend on Sunday night w/ Nantz/Packer calling it.
As soon as I find out, I’ll put something up.
