I’m going to put up a few of these between now and the time the games tip tomorrow. What beautiful heaven those 1-2.5 seconds are when a basketball is just hanging in the air and everything in your body clenches.
Below is Drew Nicholas’ game-winning shot to defeat the 11th-seeded UNC-Wilmington Seahawaks.
Everyone’s got a story about buzzer-beaters—where they were and how it impacted your brackets. I had UNC-Wilmington winning this game … and I think it was one of only three first-round upsets that I picked. I hated Nicholas for it, but loved how he holds the cocked wrist in the air until the ball swishes through.
Get off the floor! Get out of the building, Drew!

We saw Jerry Seinfeld that night!
Saw this game live, in Park City, UT with all my buddies. We are all from Maryland. There was the biggest pile-on I have ever seen. I had a sprained ankle (on crutches, mind you) and even I jumped on the pile.
I’m requesting that baseline 3 that beat Iowa a couple of years ago. I’d google the game, but I’m being lazy right now.
