Gillispie Working Extra Hard for the UK Hounds

ken.jpgA disturbing-yet-inevitable story out of Los Angeles today: Kentucky has received a verbal commitment from an eighth grade student.

The kid’s name is Michael Avery and according to his current coach Russell White, “He’s got great tools for an eighth-grader.” That’s nice.

It’s against NCAA regulations for Gillispie to offer a kid that can’t cook his own dinner a scholarship, but he saw him play in some sort of tournament last weekend and was impressed. (Really? Was this by coincidence or was he attending an eighth-grade basketball tournament searching for future recruits?)

Avery’s father talked to the Kentucky coach yesterday and told him, “This is all Mike’s decision.” Right.

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Published On Saturday, March 13th 2010

I get the feeling SEC coaches have purposefully gone after Cousins to try and get him to snap. That's not to say I think Bruce Pearl directly told Goins, "Hey, if you get a chance, throw a fist into DeMarcus' crotch," but I don't think coaches have shied away from telling their team that he's a hot head who will crack if you give him reason to.

You know, I'm not saying we have to fine coaches every time or make them sit out a game, but now we're starting to see a bit of an unwanted pattern with coaches being "punished" by way of a short-but-sweet press release put out via said coach's conference Web site.
