I’ve always been a “let me see what you can do in an actual game” guy more than a combine nerd, but I thought I’d pass along a few stats from the recent combine that the lab rats had to go through. It’s via Chad Ford’s Insider page, so if you have have Insider, go here.
Highest vertical (no step): Patrick Ewing Jr., 35 inches. Guess dad’s knees haven’t gotten to him yet. Lowest? Jiri Hubalek, 20.5 inches. Hey, that’s in my range! Ewing also recorded the highest max vertical, jump 42 inches.
Strongest (185 bench press reps): Josh Duncan, 26 times. (Joe Alexander was second with 24.)
Something called a lane agility test: DeMarcus Nelson, 10.54 seconds. The slowest? Brook Lopez, a turtle-like 12.77.
3/4 court sprints: Sunny Weems, 2.96. Second place: Joe Alexander (2.99). Slowest? Lopez again.
Overall, Alexander looks like the most impressive physical specimen, but there’s now talk that he may return to West Virginia. It seems like the wrong move: Alexander’s stock doesn’t have much room to improve after his comet-like appearance in March and an impressive combine showing. Now’s the time for Joe, so I wouldn’t expect him to return to WVU.
