Preseason NIT, postseason NIT, St. John’s basketball and Big East tournament play is not enough. Madison Square Garden is pining for three premier Tournament games.
It wants to host the East Regional when its renovations finish, approximately in 2012.
A terrific idea. New York could use a shot like this for its hoops. The Big East gets plenty of play in the metro area and on ESPN, but why not add The Tournament? If anything, I love it because it eliminates a regional site being put in a dome (ridiculous, even at the Final Four). Plus, it has a pretty neutral feel. Sites like Syracuse have been hoping to get a Final Four for decades. It still hasn’t happened. Here’s to hoping the suits can make MSG a Tournament destination in the next half-decade.

We go to the Final Four every year, and I’d love to make New York one of the regular rituals. Some of the cities that host the Final Four aren’t too great.
Syracuse can’t host because we don’t have the media facilities unfortunately. Until they expand on the Dome, we’ll be relegated to the Regionals only.
St. John’s with the shout out…..no more games at the Garden please this takes away from our MSG selling point for recruiting. The Garden is no longer a prominent place to play because there is just too many games there.
