Unfortunately, there are going to be some huge detractors out there. Kentucky started slow last year too, but the big issue this year appears to be what’s going on at point guard. (Or the lack thereof.)
While some are already beginning to type the obituaries, others see plenty of good in what happened last night. Kentucky’s next five games:
- Saturday vs. Delaware State
- Monday vs. Something Named Longwood
- Nov. 28 vs. Kansas State
- Dec. 3 vs. Lamar
- Dec. 6 vs. Miami (FL)
Wildcat fans will expect nothing less than a 5-2 record by the morning of Dec. 7. It appears the harsh reality of Kentucky’s lack of big-time relevance (from a winning standpoint) year in and year out is starting to set in. Forcing a coach out in quicker than four years is never acceptable as far as I’m concerned, but Gillispie will feel as much heat as any other man walking the sidelines this winter.
Patterson looks like he’s ready to unleash his authority any minute now, and Meeks could be one of the streakiest players this season. Beyond those two, is there a lot there? Stevenson is underwhelming, Porter could make some fans pine for Saul Smith and Ramon Harris will need to take up some rent down low to help out Patterson’s effectiveness.
Most of all, Kentucky appears to have a bad three-point shooting team again. Which seems weird.
The World of Isaac, on a different front, features Ashley Judd today. Judd’s a stud because of this: She promised she’d sit in the UNC student section if Obama (who she supported) won North Carolina in the election. It happened. She did.
Ashley Judd thinks Erin Andrews’ affinity for college athletics is overrated.
