ACC won 6 of the 11 games against the Big Ten, which I admit to being surprising. Am curious to see how the Pac-10 and Big XII will shake out in their matchups. Breakdown of those games is coming in the early afternoon.
No. 1 North Carolina 98, No. 13 Michigan State 63. Hideous. Just hideous. I turned the game off at halftime, clicked back with 10 minutes remaining and saw the situation had gotten worse. Will have a post up on the Spartans later today.
No. 3 Pittsburgh 78, Duquesne 51. Dana O’Neil, who does well at ESPN, wrote an article … about how … Pitt plays … physical. Thanks for the update?
No. 10 Tennessee 87, UNC-Asheville 69. Lane Kiffin’s wife is starting to draw some attention on the Internets. Bruce Pearl, you’re on watch.
No. 14 Xavier 81, Auburn 74. B.J. Raymond scored 32, the Muskies hit 3s at a 58-percent clip and never trailed. Sean Miller got his 100th win as coach of the Cincinnati school.
No. 15 Wake Forest 83, Indiana 58. Hoosiers played tough, but this played out correctly.
No. 16 Syracuse 88, Cornell 78. It seems the Orange always have one game like this that flies under the radar: they were trailing the Big Red by as many as 16 (a 25-9 deficit in the first half) before realizing the game counted. Jonny Flynn led the Orange in scoring, which he’s done in every game except one this season.
Notable:
Kentucky 103, Lamar 61. Lamar was undefeated until last night. Ramon Harris had to leave the game after clonking heads with teammate Michael Porter.
West Virginia 80, Mississippi 78. Good little game tucked away last night. And if you missed the connection, Bob Huggins was coaching against Andy Kennedy, who replaced him at Cincinnati. Mentor gets the win.
Penn State 85, Georgia Tech 83. Surprise, surprise. Stanley Pringle, who got caught masturbating in a Penn State library last year, led the Lions with 22. Good road win for Ed DeChellis.
Utah 95, Oregon 81. The Ducks are 3-4. I still think Ernie Kent should keep that job, even without a Tournament appearance.
Toledo 57, Massachussetts 56. Man, UMass has fallen off the damn map since Travis Ford left town.
Illinois-Chicago 74, Vanderbilt 55. Remember this home loss if anyone tries to lobby for Vandy’s consideration come late February.
Northwestern 73, Florida State 59. The Seminoles are the New Orleans Saints of college basketball; you don’t know who is showing up from game to game.
