Another Monday. I’ve become intrigued by argyle. Perhaps it’s just the process of reaching your late 20′s.
—UPSET—Arizona 69, No. 4 Gonzaga 64. Hey: impressive. Arizona was composed, poised and attacked the thick Gonzaga interior down the stretch. I even think I saw some gumption from Chase Budinger! The Bulldogs are removed from the ranks of the unbeaten, but a win against UConn would erase the impact of this loss. The real story is how the Wildcats got a big win and how the roles of these two programs have flipped in the past five seasons. Nic Wise is the most irreplacable player on Arizona.
No. 11 Wake Forest 66, Wright State 53. Demon Deacons are undefeated and more than happy to be under your radar.
No. 15 Villanova 70, La Salle 59. “It wasn’t pretty, but it’s a Big 5 game and we’ll take it,” Jay Wright told the press after the game. Villanova will probably win many games the ugly way this year.
No. 20 Arizona State 59, IUPUI 58 (OT). The Jags had a 16-point lead in this one, and subsequently blew it. The game took place in Phoenix, on the Suns’ home court, and was the undercard for the Gonzaga-Arizona game. Wildcats fans were cheering on IUPUI big-time. Rihards Kuksiks saved the Sun D’s, scoring 18 and raining threes.
Notable:
Illinois-Chicago 66, Georgia Tech 60. Tuck that one away.
Stanford 74, Colorado State 63. The Cardinal have only played five games as of Dec. 15. Stunnin in this era of college hoops.
