America, Welcome Jodie Meeks to the POY Conversation
That’s what Jodie Meeks looks like. Familiarize yourself. He’s about to get plenty of exposure.
Wildcats fans have known how valuable of a player he’s been since his arrival on campus, but due to weak playmakers around him, injury problems and a change in coaching philosophy, Meeks has never been able to establish mainstream credit. A school-record 54 points will certainly change that.
Jimmy Dykes wouldn’t stop talking about it last night, and the conversation is worth having: Meeks is now in the running for national player of the year.
In case you missed it, Meeks also hit a school-record 10 3′s, had eight rebounds and four assists. I still think Patterson is what can get this team to the Next Level, bu Meeks will now have to play under the identity of a marked man — something Patterson is probably thrilled about.
Kentucky (13-4) will probably not be tested until it plays Florida at home Feb. 10. It’s now very likely this team can get to 20-7 without batting an eyelash. After being buried early for what seems like the fifth year in a row, the Wildcats appear to be clawing back into the Tournament picture.
If I had to list my POY candidates right now, the top five would go: Griffin, Curry, Harden, Meeks and Harangody. In that order.
Someone’s missing!
Tubby Haters, enjoy, for all appears to be good in bluegrass land.
