That’s Pitt’s DeJuan Blair meeting Santonio Holmes of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He’s the one in the Yankee hat. Is that other dude LenDale White? Mike Tomlin, sans beard?
—UPSET— Texas A&M 84, No. 21 Baylor 73. It wasn’t the five-overtime classic from last year; Baylor couldn’t catch up to the Aggies’ momentum from the get-go.
—UPSET—Illinois 66, No. 25 Michigan 51. Eh. Rules are rules, but this is not an upset. The Illini are 15-2 and won this game at home. It also got payback for the Jan. 4 loss against the Wolverines. Both schools appear to be on pace for The Dance.
No. 13 Georgetown 88, No. 8 Syracuse 74. After that brief little preview from last night indicated that Syracuse’s 3-point defense was one of the best in the country, the Hoyas go out and have a season-best night from behind the arc (57 percent).
No. 1 Pittsburgh 75, South Florida 62. Gun to your head: Is Pitt a No. 1 seed eight weeks from today?
No. 2 Wake Forest 83, Boston College 63. An unforeseen upset against UNC seems so far away for BC. This was Wake Forest’s first win against Boston College. Jeff Teague put up 29. Should he be seriously involved in POY conversations now as well? We could have a pretty tight race developing …
No. 3 Duke 70, Georgia Tech 56. Singler and Henderson both go for 19. Sometimes, I see Kyle Singler’s eyes and I wonder if I’ve already passed purgatory.
No. 7 Michigan State 78, Penn State 73. Make it 10 straight for the Spartans. They almost blew a 17-point lead in this one, though. A 4-0 start inside the conference sets up a big game at home Saturday against Illinois.
Notable:
Miami (FL) 62, Maryland 60. Best game of the night. Jack McClinton hit a shot with about 24 seconds to put the ‘Canes ahead.
Florida 68, Auburn 65. Gators are 15-2. Put this team in the Top 25! A lot of two- and three-loss teams this late into the season. Perhaps we’ll see quite a stark contrast in between, say, a five-seed this year and a seven-seed.
Illinois State 65, Drake 62. Watch out for those Redbirds, who only have two losses this season as well. It appears they’re on their way to getting back to meaningful March basketball. Drake is not the team it was last year. This saddens me.
Dayton 72, Fordham 71. Dayton has two losses. Fordham has two wins. This was a one-point victory on the Flyers’ home floor. Not good.
