Bob Knight has not yet publicly responded to the rumor he would welcome a coaching opportunity at Georgia.

This is according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Furman Bisher.

Here’s the quote you’d like to see:

“He doesn’t want it to look as if he’s looking for work, but I can assure you that he’d like to have the job. It’s the idea of coaching a team in the Southeastern Conference that appeals to him. There are just so many things he could do for Georgia basketball. This would be his last stop, and he likes that.”

That’s an anonymous source telling Bisher.How long until Knight confirms or denies? I’ll set the over/under to appear on ESPN’s crawl at 4:10 today.

Look, Knight would bring a cache and the type of media attention the SEC so craves — no matter football or basketball. The next question would be: Given the criticism the SEC has gotten over its firings of Dennis Felton and Mark Gottfried, would bringing in Knight scratch more heads than receive more approvals? He’s been better than expected on ESPN’s crew, but I know I’d rather see him back on the sidelines, sporting his patented scowl.

Knight is 68, appears as vital has he was at 48 and would put any school on the national map as long as he’s there. He did this at Texas Tech in basketball. More news on this as it happens.
