East Tennessee State Player Killed in Car Accident
Some harrowing news out of Kentucky, where Seth Coy, who played center for the Bucs last season, hydroplaned and was killed in a single-car accident yesterday. Coy was driving back home to Indiana and after his car flipped on the wet road, was thrown from the vehicle because he wasn't wearing a seat belt. Head coach Murry Bartow was reached for comment. Via ETSU's site: “For those of us who worked with ... Read More
Wooden Named Best Coach of All Coaches Who Ever Coached
Sporting News gave itself a nice little bump in publicity yesterday when it released its list of the greatest coaches across the sports landscape. The list, which was "selected by a panel of 118 Hall of Famers, championship coaches and other experts" is peppered with many mentors from the men's and women's college game. To be honest, I was pretty shocked Everybody's Motivational Tool, Vince Lombardi, did not take the top honors ... Read More

Dave Bliss Publically Coming to Terms with Self
It's been more than six years since the bizarre, harrowing, unncessesary obscenities wrecked havoc on the perennially underachieving Baylor basketball program. But the man behind nearly everything (except the murder of one of his players, Patrick Dennehy) has made his way back to Texas. It's because he's now a grandfather, apparently. Regardless, he's spoken publicly a few times about the wrongdoings he undertook while crashing the ship at Baylor earlier this decade. ... Read More

Calipari Continues to Dominate the Tweet Scene
Oh, you know how it is for Cal, just hanging out in Cincinnati at LeBron James' camp and chattin' up the scene. I'm sure James was reminiscing about all those letters of interest he received from college coaches and promptly chucked in the trash. But Calipari continues to use Twitter to have his presence known in regard to recruiting and positive Kentucky PR every day; the pics above are from twitpic, ... Read More
Report: Coach K to Try and Win Another Gold
Late last night the Boston Globe's Marc J. Spears updated his blog, saying he had two sources who could all but confirm that Mike Krzyzewski will attempt to win it all again in 2012 at the Olympics in London. He won't have Kobe again (and all that L.A. speculation has now died), but what about Duke? You might think K would only have to put minimum time aside for the next ... Read More

Is the Decision to No Longer Weight the Final 12 Games Good?
In case you missed it, last week, the NCAA officially announced it would no longer give extra emphasis to how a team finished its season when considering who to select as at-larges for The Tournament. Should how a team finishes down the final third of its season be taken into account? The flow of the five-month season is one that often sees hot, Top-25 teams in December fizzle into a shell ... Refreshing to see Miles Brand hash out a nice essay on the state of the game as it relates to the one-and-done rule. His big point is one that seems lost all the time: the NBA, not the NCAA, decided on the one-year rule. What, exactly, is the NCAA supposed to do? Brand is all for a two-year minimum. {Huffington Post} ... Read More
In Case You Missed It, the Big East Schedule Was Released
Late last week, the Big East released the outline for its conference basketball schedule. We know who will be traveling where and which schools are playing each other twice (only three times for each team). Katz has weighed in on who he thinks is toughest. And with many people thinking Villanova and West Virginia are clear runaway favorites (I am not sold on this), the two will have a home-and-home ... Read More
Jimmy V Gets a Bit of an Underwhelming Showcase
The Jimmy V Classic is most notable because, if you have any sort of heart and happen to be in front of the television the night it's played, you have to watch Valvano's 1993 ESPYs speech. Earlier today, the games on display were announced. It will Butler, a team who should dip slightly, will play against Georgetown, a team that's lost its identity in less than 20 months. The other game ... Read More
