Do not sleep on Chris Wright, folks.
No. 11 Butler 73, Davidson 62. Davidson was leading for a majority of this game and was threatening to make an early statement. Would Butler have been dubbed overrated? We’ll never know.
No. 14 Washington 96, Belmont 78. The Huskies did something I am a huge fan of: played back-to-back games to start its season. I’m a huge fan of the major programs taking the cold-water-to-the-face approach in November.
No. 15 Michigan 97, Northern Michigan 50. After Evan Butler’s strong performance a couple of nights ago, Manny Harris (18, 13 and 10) gets a triple-double for the Wolverines. Are we seeing the beginning of a trend?
No. 17 Oklahoma 95, Mount Saint Mary’s 71. Will any team play on the road more this year than The Mount? Twelve of its first 15 will be played away from home. Quick, somebody ask Katz about this. Then again, maybe I’ll just tweet him. Or, you know, do the work myself. Fine. How do I get myself into these scenarios?
No. 21 Dayton 90, Creighton 80. Yes, these two schools rhyme. It’s not the first two programs have met under such poetic circumstances. I will probably be championing the Flyers as frequently as the situation allows this year, by the way.
No. 22 Georgia Tech 100, Florida A&M 59. The Yellow Jackets got to see what Derrick Favors could do. He went for a humble 10 points and eight rebounds. After beating a D-II opponent a few days prior, Paul Hewitt had to be satisfied with a 41-point win.
Notable:
Cornell 71, Alabama 67. Friday night it was Mississippi State losing to Rider. The Big Red takes out the Crimson Tide. It was blood-colored battle, and it’s going to be a long, long rebuilding process for Anthony Grant.
