All of Lexington was, more or less, feeling like that this morning. GIF taken from Kentucky Sports Radio. Now I know where to search when I need a drop of happiness in my life.
No. 4 Kentucky 72, Miami (OH) 70. If you believe a team that plays over its skis and shoots 57 percent from 3, then you probably believe the RedHawks should have won that game last night. What’s now overlooked from Wall’s big shot was Kenny Hayes, who hit a terrific 3-point to tie the game at 70. It could be argued (and I’ll link to this in Layup Line) that Wall didn’t play too well (who cares? You can’t have too much of a better debut) and most UK players failed to “bring it,” if you will.
No. 5 Villanova 103, Pennsylvania 65. Not shocking: ‘Nova has won 19 of its last 20 games playing against Big Five competition. Here’s a snippet from the game story: “There was nothing they could do,” Wright said. “I actually felt for them.”
No. 9 Duke 74, Coastal Carolina 49. Low on bench players, it doesn’t matter for the krill Duke faces in November.
No. 12 UConn 77, Colgate 63. Huskies looked better on the whole than they did in the William & Mary game, even though it was a one-point game at the break. Still wonder how this team will fare if a true point guard doesn’t surface.
No. 24 Minnesota 82, Stephen F. Austin 42. When a low-major plays a major and said major shots 11 for 19 from 3-point range, said major is going to win every said time.
Notable:
Cal State-Fullerton 68, UCLA 65 (2OT). Went to bed at halftime of this one. Fullerton looked like the better team. The Bruins came back from being 10 down to force the extra session, but ’twas not to be. Great win for the Titans here. It’s a shame most people didn’t see it.
Cincinnati 69, Prarie View A&M 62. Cinci was down by 15 in this game! Lance Stephenson, who is a highly touted guy that I’ve never seen play, was less than impressive in his first college game. He made two field goals and had seven points.
