Mouphtaou Yarou, the Villanova freshman center from Benin (borders Nigeria), is going to be out of action indefinitely after he was diagnosed with hepatitis B earlier today/some time last night.
It’s been a rocky start already for Yarou, whose age has been in question pretty much since he signed on to play with Villanova.
In case you’re unaware of what hepatitis B is, I’ll link you up to Google Health. It’s a scary virus, for sure, and completely plausible that Yarou may miss the entire season because of it.
How much of a hit does Villanova take with the loss of Yarou? Well, he wasn’t much of a contributor (five points, four boards) in just a couple of games this season. He complained of interior pains and thus hasn’t been able to play with the team recently. The loss of Reggie Redding (not eligible until the second semester) and Yarou is more of a compound problem than if the team was merely missing one or the other. This could have a small long-term effect on Villanova’s success, but here’s to hoping he gets as healthy as possible very soon.
