UPDATE: The school will not yet go on the record to confirm it has extended Cal’s contract. Hmm. Why? Would love for Katz to explaim himself. He probably will, on Twitter, before the night’s over.
Andy Katz is reporting the UConn head coach will give it a go in Storrs for another five years.
Financial details will be released later by the school, but the source said Calhoun did get a raise from his current $1.6 million salary.
One fine day, CHJ hopes to have a “source” or two.
Calhoun is 67. He’s 61-17 since the beginning of the 2007-08 season, and this is the right move for the school. But the process of finding a successor has to begin now. Calhoun will have a dozen things in his honor at that campus after he packs up his office and leaves for good, but he and the university need to begin thinking about how the Huskies can remain a top-10 national program after he goes.
When the finances of the deal become public, I’ll update this post.
