Jacob Pullen's seemingly meaningless 3-point heave at the end of the KU-K-State game meant a Wildcats cover.
The Wildcats may have lost, but degenerate gamblers (are there any other kind? Why don’t I ever hear about pragmatic gamblers?) everywhere let out a noise of utter shock and delight last night after K-State’s Jacob Pullen hit a shot from 40 feet out at the buzzer.
Sure, Kansas had locked up a win after Brady Morningstar sank two free throw to give the Jayhawks a five-point lead with four seconds remaining, but that didn’t stop Pullen from trying to make it look better in the stat sheet.
So he sprinted down the floor and let it fly before time expired.
The shot fell true. An 81-76 game turned into an 81-79 one.
Kansas was favored by four.
Pullen’s swish was just another example why you should never gamble.
If you have before or do now, when are you ever on the good side of a break like that? It’s like the late, unnecessary touchdown in football. I’m sure this scenario has played out a dozen times already this year, but since I had a buddy who was gambling on this one, it was on my radar.
Funnily enough, he laid down dough on Frank Martin’s team. Lucky bastard. He was on the right side of it. For once.
It’s no surprise he’ll be watching the first two rounds of The Tournament this year in Aruba.
