(UPDATE: Someone sent in a tip that posed the question: Did Utah State steal this from Ohio?)
Sometimes, you go through life and just miss stuff. Hell, I’m 28 and just got to watching “The Godfather” parts 1 and 2 within the past six months. I’ve still never seen an episode of “24,” “Dexter,” “The Wire” or “The Sopranos.” I’m not happy about it; I hope to remedy all of that within the next two years.
Since Utah State is only on television nationally about twice per year, if that, I can’t remember the last time I actually watched a home game the Aggies played — if anything, I see them during Championship Week for the WAC tournament.
Additionally, if the game was a blowout, why would I continue to tune in?
So, while getting some writing done last night, I had the Idaho-Utah State blowout on in the background when I heard a pretty damn fantastic chant from the student body. It’s simple, direct, unapologetic, boastful and has a good cadence to it. Give it a quick listen.
Listen, you and I both know there are a lot of tired and terrible chants all around the country. I want to see some real evidence of student-section evolution in the next decade. Sure Duke comes up with something nice every now and again (the mocking off the dribbling and passing comes to mind), but what about everyone else? At least this sounds fresh, right? And damn: If I was an opponent in the Spectrum (the Aggies’ home gym), I would HATE having to hear that. Utah State rarely drops one at home, so you’re nearly guaranteed to get a lecture from the crowd whenever you walk in there.
I know there are more terrific, original chants out there. Kindly link me: editor@collegehoopsjournal.com.

Knew I recognized my boy Jimmer in that second clip. We laid an EGG during that game. It’s a game we should not have lost. I’m much more okay with losing at the Pit.
Yes, I can confirm that we did steal this chant from Ohio U. We’re not playing off that this was our original brainchild. We have, however, taken an awesome chant to a whole new level not attainable at Ohio. With a rowdy student section of over 4000 people at each game, Winning Team/Losing Team has achieved a whole new level of being terrifically annoying. Just ask BYU. Thanks for the USU plug!
Thanks for the confirmation, Thrash. The chant was enough to lift my head from my computer late last night. Very impressive.

ah yes, winning team/losing team…second only too the tenacity of airball (I swear we called that at Roderick for at least 10 min in the hawaii game) or left/right which really seemed to frustrate Babbit last night…
