Fair or foul?
What I really want to know is, did Terps fans give a proper callback to “Tommy Boy” by saying, “Hos-keepeeng!!”
If you’re wondering how it happened, I’m guessing the photos on Twitter that went up yesterday from UNC’s players and program were seen by Terps fans. Knowing the area, the fans knew deduced which hotel it would be and began dialing.
Fake an identity over the phone here and there, you figure out which floor they’re on and you’re through to the other side.
Of course, this tomfoolery is not new for fans of any color. Specifically, Maryland fans have prank-called Duke in the past. This behavior: to be expected. Not encouraged, but no harm, no foul.
It’s all in good fun, and the tweets suggest the players understand how the game works, too. Nice to see the Heels not overreact.
But what do you want to bet Roy Williams was just FUMING over this? Let’s try and navigate ourselves through what was going on in his mind.
“I just think that’s cruel. To disrepect an opponent like that, to keep a bunch of kids up late the night before a game? I guess I just don’t understand. I wasn’t raised that way. Momma always told me, ‘Treat others how you’d like to be treated.’ Well, I don’t think the Maryland fans would be too fond of another team’s fans calling up Gary and his team the night before a big game.”
Well-played, Terps fan. Just don’t go acting like FSU students tonight, OK?
