Around the Top 25: Georgetown, redux

Have we seen the best of Georgetown?

No. 10 West Virginia 81, No. 19 Georgetown 68. We saw this happen last year to the Hoyas: fall apart down the stretch. But, the Hoyas are going dancing this time around. Man, I am getting freaking GEEKED for the Big East tournament because it’s going to be a complete crapshoot. Will Georgetown right itself by then? Why do I still think WVU will have an early exit? I intentionally digress. Back to last night. No Austin Freeman (he stayed home, sick) and that was a big part of the Hoyas’ play. Do I think they win if he’s there? No. Inspired play on Senior Night for the the Mountaineers, who get another day of rest, as they’ll now not have to tip off in the Big East tournament until Thursday play. Everybody cooling off on Georgetown now. Do they become a good contrarian pick? I admit I haven’t been high on them for the majority of the season. There’s a little bit of satisfaction seeing them have some issues when Greg Monroe can’t get it going, because I thought that was a big part of this team this year. I have no problem producing contrary evidence, and that’s Freeman and Chris Wright’s play, which has been better than I anticipated.

Notable:

Texas 87, Oklahoma 76. Ever think we could have Texas in this category in 2010? Nope. Texas was the first team since Indiana in 1980 that went from No. 1 to unranked in the same season. J’Covan Brown returend after I thought he might be done until The Tournament, didn’t start but had 15 points, five assists in 33 minutes. Oklahoma held the lead for the first 30 minutes and people started talking the Longhorns and the bubble. Then Damion James gave another lift-up performance on a Senior Night. He had 24 to get curtail the losing for Rick Barnes’ team. Nobody believes in Texas anymore and can you blame them? If James doesn’t take over, I think Texas is limited. Still a strange group. This was a really, really hard watch. While having it on in the background I think I caught Musberger getting bored because he alluded to gambling at least three times.

Utah State 76, Fresno State 39. The Aggies really want at-large consideration. I hear ya, fellas!

Missed this over the weekend, but an awesome buzzer-beater for Davidson to get past Elon.
