Melvin Goins wa
spared the fate of Tyler Smith and kept on the Tennessee team this year after he, Smith and Brian Williams were caught with guns and alcohol in a rental car on New Year’s Day.
Clearly showing a lack of growth, maturity and character, Goins went after everybody’s favorite ogre, DeMarcus Cousins, during today’s SEC semifinal.
Kentucky and Tennessee is developing into one of the hot-bed rivalries in college basketball. Helps that Bruce Pearl and John Calipari don’t like each other, but the fanbases are getting nastier with one and other than Louisville-Kentucky. There’s a sense of bizarre respect in that rivarly; here, it’s nasy punch-you-out disgust on both sides.
I get the feeling SEC coaches have purposefully gone after Cousins to try and get him to snap. That’s not to say I think Bruce Pearl directly told Goins, “Hey, if you get a chance, throw a fist into DeMarcus’ crotch,” but I don’t think coaches have shied away from telling their team that he’s a hot head who will crack if you give him reason to.
Cousins’ draft stock, if possible, continues to go up with each game. He was a force today (19 points, 15 rebounds) and played as though he’d be capable of having a massive impact in the NBA if he was drafted tomorrow.
