St. Peter’s dealt a bad blow before season begins
No matter the size or prowess of a team, if its best player goes down to an injury, you should know.
The Peacocks of St. Peter’s, who finished fourth in the MAAC last season, will have a hard time leapfrogging that place in the standings this year, as it recently lost Wesley Jenkins to an ACL knee injury in a pick-up game.
Jenkins put up 13.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. For a club like St. Peter’s, this is a bad, bad break. It’s not expected he’ll miss the entire year, but the injury, which can be tricky to come back from, will keep him off the court until this calendar year is over.
The Star-Ledger story linked above states St. Peter’s has not yet decided what to do. Doctors have told Jenkins he won’t need surgery for the injury, but with recovery time being unknown, the question of if he should take a medical redshirt year now surfaces. The team will have until the end of November to decide.
