If Syracuse plays tonight like it did last, it will easily beat the Heels

Syracuse will get its chance to beat two preseason conference favorites in two nights when it plays UNC tonight. The last time these two played was almost 22 years ago to the day.

CHJ’s 24 nuggets/things to look for in ESPN’s 24-hour hoops marathon

CHJ’s 24 nuggets/things to look for in ESPN’s 24-hour hoops marathon

Started writing this list out over the weekend. As I feared, ESPN ran with the same idea this morning. I swear to you I only read the headline, so if anything below is repeated, it is purely coincidental. With ESPN ready to unveil its mammoth coverage of the sport on its family of networks, here's a canonical approach to what to look for during the course of the marathon. The press release ... Read More

The 2010 Big 12 Big Monday Schedule

The 2010 Big 12 Big Monday Schedule

Kansas and Texas get four spots, leading the way. Final-Four flirter Missouri only gets one. The eight-week spotlight opens with Bedlam, when the Cowboys will visit the Sooners. The Kansas @ Texas tilt seems to be the biggie as of now. Jan. 11 Oklahoma State at Oklahoma Jan. 18 Texas at Kansas State Jan. 25 Missouri at Kansas Feb. 1 Texas at Oklahoma State Feb. 8 Kansas at Texas Feb. 15 Kansas at Texas A&M Feb. 22 ... Read More

65-64. Overtime. Yes, some more please.

Helluva game. Talk about meeting the hype. And Duke lost, to boot! So what did we learn? A) As suspected by CHJ, Levance Fields officially arrived. Fields had a straight-from-the-playground type of game-winner that will surely be posted on this site as soon as I can track down the video. B) Duke is pretty much no better or worse than they were at 6:59 p.m. ET on Thursday. C) Kyle Singler is one ... Read More

No, the Loser of Tonight’s Game Cannot Be Labeled “Overrated”

Unless of course said team gets blown out of the Garden. The tip will be...tipped...shortly after 7 p.m. ET over on ESPN. This Duke/Pitt tilt at "Cameron Square Garden", as Andy Glockner would say, should remind us of the fact that Pittsburgh is as familiar with the joint as much as Duke. Ultimately though, I think venue will play little-to-zero part of the outcome, but the physicality of the contest certainly ... Read More

The Frosh Are Due On Stage at MSG

Tonight it quite the night for Michael Beasley, O.J. Mayo and Derrick Rose. Three of the best freshman in the country get to be bombarded by Dickie V in Madison Square Garden and hope to give one of the more memorable frosh showcases on the hallowed wooden floor since Carmelo came out with a bang in 2002. Southern Cal and Memphis will play head-to-head tonight in the matchup that everyone ... Read More

Some ACC/Big 10 Challenge Stats For You

Some ACC/Big 10 Challenge Stats For You

Because you were so anxious to know! Through some dubious researching (yes, some Wikipedia was involved—forgive me!), here are a few stats on an ESPN/college basketball gimmick that has lacked in the luster department for most of its existence. Oh yes, and Wake Forest defeated Iowa 56-47 last night, so the ACC is out in front early, yet again. The ACC has never lost the challenge (meaning they've won more ... Read More

Feast Week Ends With A Very Sweet Dessert

Feast Week Ends With A Very Sweet Dessert

Sweet Maria. Kansas escaped. While most sports fans were absorbed with the Philadelphia/New England game, I was glued to this beauty of a basketball game. Then again, I have two televisions in my living room, so I had the luxury of keeping one eye on each. It wasn't the smoothest of games (more than 30 combined turnovers), but you can't say it wasn't entertaining. Brandon Rush's steal at the 2:20 mark of ... Read More

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Published On Saturday, March 13th 2010

I get the feeling SEC coaches have purposefully gone after Cousins to try and get him to snap. That's not to say I think Bruce Pearl directly told Goins, "Hey, if you get a chance, throw a fist into DeMarcus' crotch," but I don't think coaches have shied away from telling their team that he's a hot head who will crack if you give him reason to.

Another weak, only-verbal punishment, this time handed out by the WAC

Another weak, only-verbal punishment, this time handed out by the WAC

Published On Wednesday, March 10th 2010

You know, I'm not saying we have to fine coaches every time or make them sit out a game, but now we're starting to see a bit of an unwanted pattern with coaches being "punished" by way of a short-but-sweet press release put out via said coach's conference Web site.
