2009 National Championship Game Live Blog

2009 National Championship Game Live Blog

Love this photo. Paul Sancya of the Associated Press got the shot Saturday night. The game is nearly here. Some things to eye: • Will Lucas be guarding Lawson? Would love to see this. Lucas is a future pro, and I wonder if this one-on-one will be more balanced than it appears at first glance. Carolina • UNC and the 3's. The Heels have been ridiculous from behind the arc. It's imperative that ... Read More

Villanova-North Carolina Live Blog

9:00: Calhoun giving a long-winded and decent answer. No Roy Williams-like moment there. Izzo's postgame in the locker room was great. Game starts in 15. 9:15: As the game draws closer, I'm kind of worried Carolina is going to run 'Nova out of the joint. 9:21: Wasting only six seconds, Tyler Hansbrough is fouled. What heart. 9:23: UNC gets its first basket 90 seconds in. That's what we in the business call a ... Read More

Michigan State-UConn Live Blog

Sorry the site's been low on updates this week. Real life called, and I didn't have much time to update. Ah, who am I kidding? No one's going to be following this live. But this is as much therapy for me, knowing we'll lose college hoops for seventh months in 50 hours. I'm pulling for the underdogs, but I'll go with Michigan State and UNC as the winning teams. 6:08: UConn seems ... Read More

Friday Night Live Blog: Window 1

7:00: Everyone is buzzing about Gillispie leaving UK, but let's hone in on the games. I'm getting used to Greg Gumble in my life all the time. Got my bros over, and we're eating the best pizza outside of New Haven in Connecticut: SoHo Pie out of Danbury. 7:03: When getting amped for college basketball, a never-shaven stoner-icon like Seth Rogen just doesn't do it for me. And "Observe and Report" ... Read More

CHJ Live-Blogging From CBS’ Studios: The Final Batch of Thursday

One more turn to make. It's been a good day, but the only drama we've seen in the final 10 seconds came in the Clemson-Michigan game, and boy, did Clemson botch that. Will VCU prove nearly everyone right tonight? I hope not; I've got UCLA Sweet 16-bound. Duke-Binghamton intrigues me as well. And I need Western Kentucky to prove me right. 9:53: Odds Tony Kornheiser is awake for this game? 9:59: Duke ... Read More

Follow CHJ via Twitter right here. 7:15: Four more on tap. Clemson-Michigan intrigues me most among the early games. Will Oliver Purnell finally get a win in The Tournament? Wow, nobody is in the arena in KC right now. 7:18: I consider it shocking: Minnesota up on Texas 13-5. American-Villanova is on tap, then Gonzaga will try and avoid Akron's wrath around 7:35. 7:28: American tied it at 12 and I'm feeling really ... Read More

2:48: Purdue and Northern Iowa get all the nation's eyes for a good 25 minutes, and Purdue is up 16-6 at the moment. It's a serious problem the NCAA decides to have all of its courts look identical, giving each game less character and identity. Why not allow these courts to look like they do for the other 363 days of the year? Bad call. Post on it coming over ... Read More

9:13 - OK, I'll go on the record and predict wildly: Memphis wins, 84-66. I'm not huge on predictions, but I'm also known for making a fool of myself. Interesting note: Nantz seemed to go out of his way to mention Packer's 34th-straight Final Four broadcast. It does seem like this could be his last. Also, Self just made a nice speech to his team with a "be ourselves, go ... Read More

9:51 - I've got a sneaking suspicion that both of these games could be over by 11 p.m. so, with much hesitation, I will live blog my reaction for your read-it-later entertainment. I put up the Neitzel picture in order to jinx everyone's upset pick of the weekend, which will turn the jinx on me, I'm sure. 10:04 - Kansas is out and running and as long as they don't think ... Read More

7:10 - Got the bros over, got some pizza going and Gus Johnson's on the tube. "College BAS-ketball."Life, again, is just fine. 7:13 - Again, I hate the floor set up—everything's generic. I also hate that the NCAA has to try and make more money by playing tonight's games in professional football stadiums. Just. Not. Needed. How can the players get into it when they're chilling in the moat? 7:24 - ... Read More

I've only got to get up at 6 a.m., so this seems like the right thing to be doing. 10:00 - Louisville-Tennessee is underway and I've got my peanut butter and banana sandwich on Italian bread. Life's fine. 10:05 - "OK, time to rekeyap our skidyules..." I have Sven in my head. A Live Blog No One Will Be Following Live

Yeah ... I know it's awkward because no one else is here, but grab whatever you want from the fridge and avoid the eye contact. Game-wise, I'm really hoping we can get two quasi instant-classics. 7:04 - A little Foo Fighters to get us going and both Davis and Kellogg like UNC (someone take a chance!), while they're split on the Xavier-WVU tilt, with Davis liking the boys above. 7:10 -They just ... Read More

I'm doing this as much for me as for you, because I'm sure you'll end up reading this well after the action has completed, but here's my real time take of Sunday's action. Why not start now? Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Published On Saturday, March 13th 2010

I get the feeling SEC coaches have purposefully gone after Cousins to try and get him to snap. That's not to say I think Bruce Pearl directly told Goins, "Hey, if you get a chance, throw a fist into DeMarcus' crotch," but I don't think coaches have shied away from telling their team that he's a hot head who will crack if you give him reason to.

Another weak, only-verbal punishment, this time handed out by the WAC

Published On Wednesday, March 10th 2010

You know, I'm not saying we have to fine coaches every time or make them sit out a game, but now we're starting to see a bit of an unwanted pattern with coaches being "punished" by way of a short-but-sweet press release put out via said coach's conference Web site.
