Fortunately, Richman kept it fairly clean when inviting Jim Boeheim by for last night’s episode. The two had a light exchange at a quaint table in one of Syracuse’s most famous hot-dog joints, Heid’s of Liverpool.

Still, the place is no Dinosaur BBQ.

(AP)

A ripple within one of the most talented teams in the Atlantic 10 was felt yesterday, when sophomore forwards Chris Clarke and Carmel Bouchman decided to not return this season.

It’s about as minor a loss as could be felt, in terms of what Temple is and how much the players contributed. Clarke is transferring to play D-II ball at Morehouse College, which is in Atlanta.

Clarke never played with the team after transferring from junior college. The loss of Bouchman, who is heading back to Tel Aviv, Israel, to earn his keep playing there, could be at least a minor hindrance. But the Owls are rather prepared for this season, as Jeff Goodman coincidentally wrote about on Friday.

Telling you, Lavoy Allen should be a joy to watch this season.

Now the team gets two scholarships freed up, and that could lead to Dunphy continuing to keep the program on top in the post-John Chaney era.

Temple, which has won the A10 three years running, will be the favorite to take the league crown again after playing beyond expectations, if that was possible, in 2009-10. The only true bad break, and most knew it at the time, was drawing Cornell in the first round of the NCAAs.

It’s now official: BYU has less than a year remaining as a member of the Mountain West Conference.

The school and the WCC announced tonight they’ll be teaming up in all sports save for football come 2011-12. The Cougars are going through with their threat of being an independent in pigskin, a move that will assuredly bring an intelligent column or five about the benefits and consequences of that move.

Here’s the WCC’s press release. There will be a press conference at BYU Wednesday at noon local time, 2 ET.

The school will be leaving the conference it helped concoct in 1999.

As I wrote at Yahoo earlier, from a basketball perspective and what it does to the BYU’s strength of schedule, it’s a demotion. The Mountain West has produced multiple legitimate tournament-caliber teams over the past half-decade, while the West Coast Conference has occasionally given us an inconsistent second fiddle to Gonzaga but not much more. Top to bottom, the MWC is/was a better basketball league.

Now, if Portland and St. Mary’s can continue to ascend, the gap is not so grand. That remains to be seen. As of now, the Cougars will not be facing teams that can equate to UNLV, San Diego State, New Mexico and Utah on a year-in, year-out basis. They’ll go from playing 15,000-seat arenas in the MWC, in storied venues like The Pit (New Mexico) to balling in 2,500-seat, glorified high school gymnasiums. But the move is based on football and football alone, of course.

BYU instantly becomes the bread-winner in the conference, which prides itself on its privatized religious institutions. BYU is certainly that.

It’s been an unusually rocky offseason in East Lansing.

First there was Tom Izzo flirting with the Cavs job, then Chris Allen was dismissed from the team, and now comes the arrest of shooting guard, junior Korie Lucious.

Lucious imbibed and then, like so many foolish college students (though they are hardly the only guilty ones), thought he could handle a two-ton vehicle. So now we’ve got this and Joe Mazzulla peeing in public. Who wants to make it three nights in a row that we have a college basketball player be forced to talk with a police officer?

East Lansing police arrested Spartan star Korie Lucious for drunk driving on Monday around 2:30 a.m.

According to his ticket, Lucious took a breathlyzer test and had a blood-alcohol level of .09. That’s slightly above the legal limit. … Police say Lucious, who is from Milwaukee, spend five hours behind bars and was released on a $200 bond. Once his ticket is processed, he’ll have 10 days to appear in court and enter a plea.

Izzo’s going to remain tight-lipped until he gets all the information he needs. Just a guess here, but I’m thinking he’ll go harsh on Lucious and make him sit at least five games. Unless Lucious has been a suspect character for some time behind the scenes at MSU, I don’t think Izzo keeps his starting guard (well, that could be moot for a bit, now) on the pine past Thanksgiving.

Lucious’ 0.9, from a college kid’s tolerance perspective, isn’t that much — but no doubt this is a black-and-white issue. Lucious will need to be made an example of and Izzo will have another (unwanted) chance to set the tone for this team well before Midnight Madness.

Lucious’ biggest moment as a Spartan came during the second round of The Tournament last year, when he hit the 3 that defeated Maryland.

One of the most endearing personality traits a person can have is the ability to laugh at themselves. Self-deprecation among coaches isn’t commonplace. The ones who embrace it are most often the ones who are treated with the most kindness by the media.

Bob Huggins will put himself on trial Friday when he gets roasted — but in the name of a good cause. Huggins, who lost his mother in 2003 to colon cancer, will endure his colleagues’ good-natured shots in an effort to raise money to fight the disease in his mother’s name and memory. There is an endowment fund named in her memory, and all the proceeds from the event will go toward it.

John Calipari, Frank Martin and Andy Kennedy are some of the guest, wannabe comedians. And since Huggins gets to handle the microphone last, Kennedy better watch what he says, lest it turn into a roast for him.

For everyone in that room’s sake, I hope cellphones and cameras are confiscated before the event gets underway. If it were captured, such audio or video would make for Internet gold, however.

I was thinking, what will those walls hear Friday night at the $100-per-ticket affair? Surely there’s a heap of unknown dirt these guys have on Huggins that they may dump all over him before the night’s over. Some possibilities — and I’ve kept it relatively tame. The jokes, of course, are terrible, but that’s kind of the point.

“I’d like to thank everyone for coming and extend my heartfelt apology
to the person who’d most like to be here but could not make it: former
Cincinnati president Nancy Zimpher.”

“We weren’t sure what jokes were off-limits tonight. What we are sure
of: Huggins will always argue about what is and isn’t out of bounds.”

“We debated bringing in a ref to deem was what appropriate, but then
we realized if an official of any kind was in the room, Hug would
never shut up.”

“In all fairness, Bob’s changed a lot since his early days at
Cincinnati. Used to be his BAC and his players’ GPA were in direct
contrast of one and other. Now, with the improved grades, at least the
players are keeping the race neck and neck.”

“I was wondering … what was the harder thing for Bob to maneuver
around, NCAA recruiting bylaws or a Las Vegas hotel-room coffee
table?”

“What made your cry more, Bob? Falling into that table, Kenyon Martin
breaking his leg or the cop who wouldn’t let you out of your DUI?”

“Huggins broke seven ribs in that unfortunate spill, if you hadn’t
heard, which is coincidental, because that’s how many times his
talented teams have flamed out in the first weekend of the NCAA
tournament.”

“Huggins is smart, though. Can’t take that away from him. After all,
he only stayed in the burgeoning metropolis that is Manhattan, Kansas,
for a year before getting the hell out and moving to fledgling
Morgantown. Hug, you were less loyal to the people of Kansas State
than you are to the extra eight kids you promise scholarships to each
year.”

“Somebody keep an eye on Huggy’s drinking tonight, by the way. We’d
hate to see him lose control and starting vomiting the same color as
that hideous mustard suit he wore that one time.”

“What’s worse, if he starts throwing up it means he’ll treat the
toilet bowl like it’s Da’Sean Butler.”

“Speaking of that mustard suit, was that the worst fashion decision
you’ve ever made, or are you and Pat Riley the only men left in
America who want to look like Gordon Gecko? Unfortunately, you’re less
Gecko and more Gleason, and the physical comedy you provided for us in
that Vegas hotel room only further confirms that.”

Hey, when you gotta go, you gotta … make sure no po-pos are leering anywhere nearby.

But Joe Mazzulla and Dalton Pepper were not so cautious. The two received citations early Sunday morning for disorderly conduct and public urination. Hilariously humiliating.

Not so funny for Bob Huggins. This is more fodder against ‘Eers coach, who is being roasted in the name of raising money to fight cancer this Friday.

The run-in with the law is the third one for Mazzulla; in 2009 Mazzulla was charged with domestic battery, and in 2008 Mazzulla was given bracelets for drinking underage and aggravated assault while at a Pittsburgh Pirates games. Last year’s incident led to his brief dismissal from the team.

“We are aware of the situation and the matter will be handled internally,” WVU coach Bob Huggins said in a statement to The Dominion Post Monday afternoon. Mazzulla and Pepper have the option of pleading guilty and paying a fine or contesting the citations in Morgantown Municipal Court.

Believed to be a starter in his senior year, Mazzulla can ill afford this kind of attention. Everyone loves that first weekend back at college, but with his history, he’s gotta know better. Yet, here he is again, finding himself having a conversation with men in blue.

The fine the two will have to pay would range from $135 to $535. They are due in court Nov. 1.

Requisite linkage, as it’s more than appropriate.

(Editor’s note: This is a sponsored post.)

The Kentucky Wildcats are moving fast and well this summer. After failing to reach the Final Four, they managed to commit Kyle Wiltjer for the 2011 class, a great new player for those who love to bet on sports, especially on March Madness.

During halftime of the Boost Mobile Elite 24, a game that annually features 24 of the nation’s best high school basketball players, he announced he was picking Kentucky over Wake Forest, California, Gonzaga and Texas, the other schools who wanted him. He made his commitment without even visiting the Wildcats camp, something that is quite surprising and relatively rare.

He told ESPN that he wanted to be a part of the best recruiting class in the nation. basically because coach John Calipari is the best coach to help him “achieve greatness,” meaning helping him get into the NBA.

Wiltjer is a 6-9, 225-pound forward who could be a pretty sweet fit for coach Calipari’s dribble-drive offense.

He has some solid moves in the post and knows how to rebound strongly, but his passing and shooting abilities are even better.

With three really good forwards in Mike Gilchrist, Anthony Davis and Wiltjer, Kentucky will be able to play inside-out and will be difficult to defend in the paint.

Had Marcus Jordan not tweeted away his indiscretions in Las Vegas recently, it’s likely the Nevada Gaming Board Control wouldn’t be on his trail, trying to deduce just how many laws, and to what degree, MJ’s son broke.

The sons of NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan charged booze tabs exceeding $50,000 to their Aria suite at CityCenter, Vegas Confidential has learned.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board on Friday confirmed it is involved. At issue is whether Marcus Jordan, 19, was drinking alcohol or gambling.

A reminder: older brother Jeffrey is 21. So he’s seemingly in the clear, as the NGCB may come down on the clubs who supplied liquor and allowed Marcus past the ropes.

Ol’ 23 is well-connected and certainly among the most important of all clients in many spots in Las Vegas. My feeling is they’ll be some public reprimanding, but no real damage done in the long run. Marcus will be temporarily banned on the premises of a few clubs, maybe, but that’s not going to mean anything, as classes have already begun at Central Florida.

The worst of this story is behind us, still, UCF is drawing a little more negative PR to its team with this news. It will be a minor subplot to the team’s 2010-11 season.

If he does leave, we could have a meme on our hands.

From here on out, whenever a school goes through an extensive, tedious, elongated process to enroll an over-21-years-old player, only to see said player leave after a year. That could be referred to as being Majok’d.

The Hartford Courant is reporting Ater Majok is going to leave UConn and go back to playing professional ball in Australia. The move will happen, primarily, because Majok has a massive family in Africa that is/will need to depend on him.

Ater Majok’s playing career at UConn has likely ended, multiple sources have told The Courant. Coach Jim Calhoun said that is a distinct possibility, but not a done deal.

“We’re talking to Ater about his future, yeah,” Calhoun said. “That’s all I can say. ? He hasn’t made any decision yet, but he could certainly go back and play in the Australian professional league. Nothing’s been determined yet, but there’s a chance that kind of thing could happen.”

Majok tweeted something draped in ambiguity at 3:19 Thursday morning: “life can take unexpected turns.. there is nothing i can do about it all i can do is keep my head up and keep working hard….”

Guessing this wasn’t about the 7-Eleven unexpectedly closing its doors earlier that night.

If Majok goes, UConn probably won’t be too affected; the 23-year-old freshman put up 2.3 points and three boards in less than 15 minutes per game last year. I saw UConn in person a few times, and he was the definition of an afterthought on both sides of the floor. If Majok can make decent coin in Australia, then he should probably go. Calhoun’s too close to retirement to really chance his ways, and the Huskies’ system rarely morphs timid big men into offensive threats.

Symbolic, kind of, how UConn slides up against Louisville in losing a player. It’s very possible in three years these programs will be a shell of what they once were.

They could also have new coaches by then.

No BCS program has taken as many body blows in so many ways like Louisville has in the past 18 months.

The latest punches to the gut came yesterday, when the school learned Memphis transfer Roburt Sallie and recruit Justin Coleman won’t play for the team this season.

Due to the timing requirements of meeting the matriculation deadline for graduate school, former University of Memphis guard Roburt Sallie will not be attending the University of Louisville. … In addition, signee Justin Coleman did not meet NCAA freshman admission requirements to join the Cardinals. Coleman averaged 20.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists as a senior last season at Huntington Prep.

Sallie averaged 10.5 points, four rebounds and nearly two assists last year. Coleman was a top-50 recruit, according to Rivals.

Sallie didn’t graduate from Memphis on time. That’s the problem. So, without him, Pitino loses length and another body to throw into his full-court press. Coleman would’ve been the more valuable player, in my opinion, though, and his lack of good grades is something Louisville should’ve been more on top of. Responsibility ultimately falls on the student-athlete, but how shaky was Coleman’s status from the get-go if Rick Pitino couldn’t get his act in gear?

This late into summer, when classes have already started at half the colleges around the country, it’s a bad reflection upon a coaching staff when it can’t get players to grind out summer classes before their freshman years begin.

Because of these two losses, the Cardinals will likely be hard-pressed to repeat the minimal success they had last year, when the Cardinals finished an uneven 20-13 campaign with a whimper in The Tournament’s first-round, a 77-62 whipping at the hands of Cal.

Rick Pitino continues to slowly see his program slip off its foundation. All he went through last year, and what lies ahead in the next nine months … this has probably been a more trying time than even his Boston Celtics days.

Still, the game is fluid. There is movement about the hardwood that you’ll notice is painfully absent from today’s game. Sure some of the shooting forms and athleticism is lacking, but the simplified game also brought about certain execution that isn’t employed in our era.

One thing I’ve always liked about our game is, while the athletes’ size and quickness do matter, a smart team that can pass the ball effectively will always have a chance, no matter the makeup of its opponent. Wonder how Seattle and Wichita would fair against a John Calipari team.

A ranking from the best to worst, and news on how the underrated television program has expanded for the better in the upcoming season.

More TV news out of Bristol today, as the college basketball PR team sent out a blast of its lineup of games and sites for the 2010-11 season of “College GameDay.”

The biggest adjustment in this year’s slate is the decision to extend the pre-game coverage from one to two hours. The show will now begin at 10 a.m. on ESPNU, presumably with the two Davises, Jay Bilas and Digger Phelps all up and at ‘em for the entire broadcast, then will switch over to ESPN at 11 a.m. ET.

The highly heralded football version recently did this as well, moving from two to three hours, the bonus hour also being put on ESPNU and hosted by Erin Andrews.

As an aside, I think college basketball’s version of “GameDay” is continually underappreciated — if not underrated — and the show has badly needed more time to attack the healthy slate of games that are happening each Saturday. By the time the program gets going on the calendar, anywhere from 10 to 15 worthwhile games are open for dissection.

Rece Davis is as effective a host as Chris Fowler, and Bilas is more biting/just as legitimate as Kirk Herbstreit. The basketball team’s chemistry will likely never match what Fowler-Herbstreit-Corso built over the past decade, however.

Back to the news. The lineup, as it looks now, is strong. Call it a triple with a head-first slide.

It’s the second straight year ESPN has opted to put its first “GameDay” game as a primetime women’s affair; last year UConn hosted Notre Dame in the first women’s game featured by “GameDay.

“It will mark the first time the show has originated from a site that has featured a men’s and women’s game played in the same day,” the ESPN release states.

Interesting choice. I like it very much. More than anything, I’m hoping for a Bruce Pearl to once again smear on the chest paint. Here’s to hoping the ESPN lawyers slipped that in the contract.

There will be four schools getting their first shot at hosting the program: Baylor, Purdue, Villanova and Virginia Tech. Notice how the putrid 2009-10 season in the Pac-10 ruined its chances at hosting anything this year. In fact, othing left of the central time zone gets Dickie V and Dan Shulman on the call.

For fun, I’d rank the game’s thusly (as of now):

1) Kansas State at Kansas
2) Michigan State at Purdue
3) Duke at Virginia Tech
4) Illinois at Michigan State
5) Vanderbilt at Tennessee
6) Kentucky at Florida
7) Pittsburgh at Villanova
Texas at Baylor

By the time Janurary rolls around, that list will surely be null and void.

The coaches wanted it; why wouldn’t it seem like it was actually going to happen?

When the Big East coaches convened in sunny Florida during May, they unanimously voted to rid the conference tournament at Madison Square Garden of the horrendous double-bye format it recently adopted.

But no such luck. The school presidents have the ultimate say and they say the double bye must stay.

The Big East’s presidents did not approve earlier recommendations by the league’s athletic directors and coaches to change the format, which would have begun with the 2011 Big East men’s tournament.

“There were a variety of reasons and it was concluded that the timing wasn’t right,” Big East associate commissioner Dan Gavitt told FanHouse. … One reason might have been because of the television implications. ESPN is already locked into televising next year’s tournaments, and a tournament without byes, could have had the higher seeded teams played afternoon games, instead of the more desirable night time slots in the earlier rounds.

A source at a league school also said that with the Big East’s TV deals expiring in the next few years, a new tourney format could be more beneficial to any future television negotiations.

No surprise, TV is driving the decision. Interesting that it’s also the double-edged sword in this case.

But from the looks of it, we may only have to endure this hideous, bloated tournament format for a few more seasons. With a new television deal coming down the pike, it’s likely the presidents will then side with the coaches’ desires and put this tournament in a fitter format. If and when the rested teams lose again in 2011, this issue will bubble to the surface like before. If you’re rooting for an altered arrangement at MSG, root for the top seeds to topple mid-week.

Of course, the league should go back to a 12-team tournament, but I’ve worn out the head on that drum plenty already.

Hawaii in talks to join Big West; Utah State has second go-round with Mountain West. Conference chaos continues to carry on.

What looks like a minor ripple could be the rip that tears the WAC apart.

As of now, the conference has just four teams still on board for the future: Idaho, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, San Jose State. Boise State, Fresno State and Nevada are all due for roll call in the Mountain West one and two years down the road.

And now, today, we have news that Hawaii is flirting with its options and that Utah State is having a second set of meetings with the suits of the Mountain West.

Any less than seven teams, come 2014, means the WAC is longer a legitimate conference in the eyes of the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee (you need seven members to merely warrant an auto berth) and the general public. The general public would consider the WAC bottom-of-the-barrel sans Boise State, anyway.

From a football perspective, this manic musical chairs game will be for naught in regard to getting an auto bid to a BCS bowl game. Sans the MWC and Conference USA teaming up for a super conference, the potential to earn a guaranteed spot is slim. And even that is far from a sure thing.

Hawaii, with a move toward independence in football (all right, I’ll give you a minute to laugh that away), would then seek to join the Big West in all other sports. From Andy Katz’s Hawaii scoop above:

Hawaii wouldn’t be considering this if Fresno State and Nevada didn’t leave the WAC for the MWC (effective in 2012) last week. According to sources, those moves, despite what MWC commissioner Craig Thompson is saying, may not have occurred had BYU not entertained being a football independent. And that might not have been broached had Utah not been plucked to go to the Pac-10. And that only happened because Texas turned down the Pac-10, and because of that decision, so did at least four other Big 12 schools.

So it all started with Texas, of course. How long ago does that seem? Hawaii’s not much of a player in basketball, but these football-minded moves will forever affect the cosmetics of conferences as we know them. Rankings, ratings and schedules will no doubt be altered in short time.

Utah State can’t quit the MWC just yet, either, by the way. After its president wrote a public letter stating the school had turned down an invite, he and the Aggie brass walked back into the MWC party. The Salt Lake Tribune got posted the scoop less than 20 minutes ago.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, USU has been talking to the MWC since late last week, and the discussions have continued into this week. … Much of this hinges on BYU. And the Cougars are still mulling over their options. Until they arrive at a decision, the MWC is in a holding pattern. And the Aggies won’t know what their future holds until there is some kind of resolution.

“The Mountain West needs to figure out where it’s headed,” the source said. “Right now they don’t know whether they’re a 10 team or an 11-team conference. Until they figure out what’s going to happen, nothing’s … imminent.”

To think, this episode of conference mutation began with BYU strongly considering going to the WAC. It was the Mountain West that was in all the trouble. That panic lasted about 15 minutes.

Now it appears the WAC is going to the coroner. If either Hawaii or Utah State bail, the WAC will be in a massive bind. If it can’t get a couple of smaller schools to jump ship on their conference, their ship will go under.

And at that point, is it even worth saving?

And also consider Colorado and Nebraska announcing they’ll leave the conference after this season.

LSU guard Bo Spencer is the latest to switch allegiances. He was announced academically ineligible to participate in basketball for the upcoming semester by Tigers coach Trent Johnson. With that announcement, a few coaches came calling. Fortunately for him, a Big Six school or two was still interested.

Nebraska’s the pick.

At first, you think, How badly did Spencer want out of Baton Rouge? Badly enough that he agreed to suck up his pride, leave LSU this late in the game, give up a scholarship and his starting spot at the 1 permanently? No, seems more like Spencer got a good deal by landing at a BCS school that probably promised him a starting spot next season.

Now Spencer will have to abide by NCAA protocol, sit out a year, lose a year of eligibility and play the 2011-12 season without the promise of a scholarship. But given his bad grades and uneven relationship with Johnson, Spencer — who is from the Baton Rouge area — will have to get his grades up in Lincoln before helping introduce the Huskers to Big Ten basketball next season.

Has Texas basketball’s offseason been the busiest one that nobody’s been talking about?

Remember the Longhorns last year? How deep that team was? Nevermind the epic collapse and whimper job in The Tournament. At the very least, Rick Barnes had bodies. Too many bodies, really; Barnes couldn’t juggle all that talent and keep the team from combusting. Strangely, ego and a me-first mindset didn’t seem to plague the team. Eventually, there were far too many betas and gammas to win with that group.

Since the season ended, Texas has gone through a lot of change. Sure it’s not been as dire as a program losing a coach or a star player defecting to another school, but still, dents have been made. Damion James: graduated. Dexter Pittman: graduated. Justin Mason: graduated. Freshman Avery Bradley left for the NBA, DeAndre Daniels went back on his word with the school, and now Varez Ward is said to be transferring to Auburn in an effort to be closer to his mother, who has a heart condition.

With Ward leaving, Texas is half as capable in the backcourt as it was six months ago.

Burnt Orange Nation sums it up thusly:

Not that this news doesnt hurt. While the loss of Daniels and ASJ is mitigated by the fact they were recruits still a year away from campus, the loss of Varez Ward is an entirely different story. Varez was expected to be a key contributor (and likely starter) for this year’s basketball team, as they looked to rebound from last year’s historic collapse. Coincidentally, Varez himself was looking to rebound this season, coming off of the bizarre injury to his quad that ended his season during a lay-up drill. These two rebounds (of both the team and Varez) may have been more interconnected than most UT fans realize.

Kind of incredible how different Texas will look next year. Remember, Dogus Balbay is coming off a big injury, too. Rick Barnes find himself in a position this year that Jim Boeheim was in last: coaching with all the expectations low and a season expected to be mired in mediocrity.

Let’s see if Barnes can get his team to play above expectations, like Boeheim did, even if the parts from each team aren’t entirely interchangeable.

If only he could drop a J like he can a G.

Make that 50 Gs.

Michael Jordan’s son + Las Vegas + 20 years old + braggadocio over thousands of dollars lost = instant news.

Marcus Jordan and his brother, Jeff, both of whom will play at Central Florida this year, took a trip out to Vegas because ol’ Pop was hosting his annual basketball camp.

The information of Marcus’ big spending spree became public by way of his Twitter account. Naturally, the damning tweet has disappeared. What specifically raised eyebrows can still be seen thanks to Google cache, though. Thanks, Google cache!

Here’s the money tweet: “Last night was stupid… 35k at Haze… Totals 50k something the whole day.. Damn!! Going to the pool again today.. Gotta relax!”

Stupid being the ever-operative word. Haze is a night club. I know: shocker. Fortunately, young Marcus was able to shake off such a night by getting some sun and hanging out by the shallow end.

SPORTSbyBROOKS says: “The brothers were in town, along with UCF Knights guard A.J. Rompza to visit the fantasy camp run by Michael Jordan at the Mirage Resort Casino.”

Someone needs to get Rompza so we can get the details of what all went down. It’s not shocking a Jordan got past velvet ropes, even if he wasn’t of age. But where’d all that money go? And how do you think that conversation went over with dad? Is Marcus on the hook for some serious Christmas presents now? Then again: What could he ever buy his father?

And this just in from the department of unfortunate timing: UCF recently posted a brief story stating how little time its players took off this summer. From a basketball perspective, it was work-work-work.

The elder Jordan is infamous for his Vegas and Atlantic City all-night benders in which he’d blow through hundreds of thousands of dollars. Appropriately, jokes are being had at Jordan’s expense for his ability to pass on this gene down to his sons.

It’s their era. The youthful boys and girls who choose to spend their summers not by playing video games indoors. Or even playing basketball games outdoors.

No, trick-shot videos have become all the rage in the past year. It’s an ever-competitive one-upmanship that is elevated each week on YouTube. These videos can get teenagers their 15 seconds of fame, thanks to shows like ESPN’s “SportsNation.“

Because, without YouTube, would this movement even exist? So, despite its lack of college basketball relevance (although one shooter is boasting a Club Tril shirt in the video below), I agreed to put up the video after an eager young bro sent me an e-mail.

“My friends and I are high schoolers from Columbus, Ohio. SInce we had nothing better to do this summer, we decided to make basketball trick shot videos. We actually had some decent success with our second video, but we are trying to make our third video even bigger. We were wondering if there was any way that you could help us get some views? We would really appreciate any help that you could give us.”

You got it, buddy. No doubt you’re making Mark Titus proud, too.

Much props to The Black Keys soundtrack. Gives me hope for the future.
