The Honeymoon’s Over: All Sorts of Negative Buzz Around Kentucky

The Honeymoon’s Over: All Sorts of Negative Buzz Around Kentucky

Where should we start? Let's go with the allegations against John Calipari's former team, Memphis. It's alleged that, in all likelihood, Derrick Rose had someone else take the SATs for him. Yes, I agree: it's rather frightening to imagine that Derrick Rose didn't think he was capable of getting into Memphis without any outside help. Then again, he did admit to falling asleep with a knife earlier this season. The allegations include ... Read More

The Beneficial Fallout from Kentucky

The Beneficial Fallout from Kentucky

Everyone seems to be thrilled about Billy Gillispie leaving — including Gillispie, who was all smiles at his 30-minute press conference today — and the University of Kentucky starting anew. Jodie Meeks, who has not decided yet whether he will return (I doubt he does), went on the record with the Kentucky Kernel today, taking the high road. “He’s a hard working coach and I have a lot of respect for him, ... Read More

Gillispie Out for Sure; Is Donovan Going In? UPDATE: Donovan Says He’s Out

UPDATE II:, 4:52: Donovan, per an official statement: "I am committed to the University of Florida and look forward to continuing to build our program here." UPDATE, 4:49 p.m.: "Kentucky and its fans deserve a coach that understands this is just not another coaching job," AD Mitch Barnhart said at his press conference. "It is a philosophical disparity that could not be repaired."  Barnhart did take questions. On status of buyout: ... Read More

BREAKING: Gillispie Rumored to be Done; Nothing Official Yet

UPDATE II: A source has told CHJ that Greg Popovich from 9 News in Cincinnati spoke with the Athletic Departmenet, and the university will be releasing a statement tomorro about the situation. For now, UK has denied WHAS' report. WHAS in Louisville has received word that Billy Gillispie is done. (UPDATE: WNKY has piggy-backed on this story.) Word was the brass didn't want to let Gillispie twist in the wind over ... Read More

So When’s Gillispie Leaving the Campus?

So When’s Gillispie Leaving the Campus?

(As you recall, Billy Gillispie never signed a contract. Here's his Memorandum of Understanding.) If I wanted to link up every story which indicates how uncomfortable Billy Gillispie has been at Kentucky, how much he doesn't fit in, how arrogant he is or how badly fans have grown to just want him to get the. hell. out., I might be able to create an entire Gillispiepedia site about it all. But UK ... Read More

Billy Gillispie is Almost Always Angry Near Halftime

Billy Gillispie is Almost Always Angry Near Halftime

Or does he have something against ESPN's Jeannine Edwards? Last night's interview after the first half wasn't as chippy as the first one (link above), but Gillispie clearly didn't want to be bothered by Edwards ... again. The condescending tone isn't lost on this viewer. And yet, the questions were fine ... again. Is this part of Gillispie's personality (read: prickish), or is he just a man who might've taken on ... Read More

Billy Gillispie Can’t Be Bothered With Questions About Jodie Meeks

Billy Gillispie Can’t Be Bothered With Questions About Jodie Meeks

A ridiculous overreaction by Gillispie when ESPN's Jeannine Edwards asks him an extremely reasonable, obvious question about uber-scorer Jodie Meeks' lack of offense last night against Ole Miss. That makes Tubby seem downright cuddlesome. ... Read More

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Published On Saturday, March 13th 2010

I get the feeling SEC coaches have purposefully gone after Cousins to try and get him to snap. That's not to say I think Bruce Pearl directly told Goins, "Hey, if you get a chance, throw a fist into DeMarcus' crotch," but I don't think coaches have shied away from telling their team that he's a hot head who will crack if you give him reason to.

Another weak, only-verbal punishment, this time handed out by the WAC

Another weak, only-verbal punishment, this time handed out by the WAC

Published On Wednesday, March 10th 2010

You know, I'm not saying we have to fine coaches every time or make them sit out a game, but now we're starting to see a bit of an unwanted pattern with coaches being "punished" by way of a short-but-sweet press release put out via said coach's conference Web site.
