"I’m looking at it like we’re going to make the tournament," Calathes said. "I think that we will. I think we definitely make the Tournament.” Well then, let's track Mr. Calathes' play down the stretch. {Orlando Sentinel} ... Read More

The Student Section Supports: Arkansas @ Florida

The Student Section Supports: Arkansas @ Florida

Probably one of my favorite things about running this site, "The Student Section Supports" highlights one game each weekend that is under the national radar and/or has high upset potential. When: Saturday, 2 ET. ARKANSAS (12-3): The Hogs have one of the great players in the country, in terms of "watchability", if you will, in point guard Courtney Fortson. Fortson is making the days of Sonny Weems seem like an extremely distant ... Read More

Nick Calathes: Hip With the Trends

Nick Calathes: Hip With the Trends

I had no idea Nick Calathes was so much like my ex-housemate who preferred to sit in silence on the couch, let the hours go by and occupy his precious time with online gambling. Then again, he didn't have much of a jumper. A report from the Associated Press late last week (Yahoo! first got the scoop) is stating that Calethas racked up about $600 worth of gambling debt while trying ... Read More

What Are Florida’s Chances of Going Back to the Final Four?

What Are Florida’s Chances of Going Back to the Final Four?

You can hear it now from the mass media: "Remember, this team does have a title to defend. They ARE the defending champions, and until someone takes that from them, they should be treated as such." Yada. Yada. Yada. Yes, it's true that almost all of us out there in the Blogosphere and in Legitimate Writer World completely dismissed the notion of a relevant Florida Gators team in 2007-08, but ... Read More

The Daily Quickie Dude Gets It Right

The Daily Quickie Dude Gets It Right

Dan Shanoff is a very concise and succinct writer—I read his stuff every day because of it. He used to doing his thing over at espn.com's Page 2 (if the name is ringing a bell), but now runs danshanoff.com, which has a format very similar to the one he formerly did. Anyway, amidst the wretched we'll-make-up-for-this-since-he-never-got-voted-for-it-in-the-'90's choice of Brett Favre for Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year, Shanoff picks the ... Read More

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Published On Saturday, March 13th 2010

I get the feeling SEC coaches have purposefully gone after Cousins to try and get him to snap. That's not to say I think Bruce Pearl directly told Goins, "Hey, if you get a chance, throw a fist into DeMarcus' crotch," but I don't think coaches have shied away from telling their team that he's a hot head who will crack if you give him reason to.

Another weak, only-verbal punishment, this time handed out by the WAC

Another weak, only-verbal punishment, this time handed out by the WAC

Published On Wednesday, March 10th 2010

You know, I'm not saying we have to fine coaches every time or make them sit out a game, but now we're starting to see a bit of an unwanted pattern with coaches being "punished" by way of a short-but-sweet press release put out via said coach's conference Web site.

When Calhoun leaves UConn, Tom Moore would be a worthy successor

Published On Thursday, March 11th 2010

Long-term, did Quinnipiac losing last night help Moore's chances down the road of going to UConn? If he and the Bobcats had won, would he be wooed by many a school in the next six weeks?
