John Calipari quickly diffuses the “jag off” comment he made on ESPN

John Calipari quickly diffuses the “jag off” comment he made on ESPN

The good-natured ribbing occurs between 1:40 and 2:30 of the video, after Buccigross sneaks in a little shot at Memphis' inability to win that national title (which now wouldn't exist!) in 2008.

The Honeymoon’s Over: All Sorts of Negative Buzz Around Kentucky

The Honeymoon’s Over: All Sorts of Negative Buzz Around Kentucky

Where should we start? Let's go with the allegations against John Calipari's former team, Memphis. It's alleged that, in all likelihood, Derrick Rose had someone else take the SATs for him. Yes, I agree: it's rather frightening to imagine that Derrick Rose didn't think he was capable of getting into Memphis without any outside help. Then again, he did admit to falling asleep with a knife earlier this season. The allegations include ... Read More

John Calipari is Swiftly Taking Over the College Basketball Universe

John Calipari is Swiftly Taking Over the College Basketball Universe

At this point, even Barack Obama must be in envy of John Calipari's ambition and deal-closing abilities. This morning, it was reported that Kentucky snatched the final piece of its recruiting puzzle: dynamic point guard John Wall. Wall, ranked the No. 1 point guard, No. 5 overall, on the ESPNU 100, informed Miami coach Frank Haith Tuesday morning that he had committed to Kentucky. The reasoning, according to a source, was because ... Read More

Calipari Is on a Roll Already

Calipari Is on a Roll Already

After wowing UK fans and brass alike by bringing up the fact he called nearly every living person of significance related to the University of Kentucky before and after taking the job, the pieces seem to be falling into place for John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats. There won't be one preseason poll that will have UK worse than 15th next season. The coach with the ridiculously loaded contract is ... Read More

Yes, Again, Officially Official: Calipari is Going to Kentucky

Memphis Roar is claiming Calipari is fleeing the state of Tennessee and heading west. Somebody staked out his house by a golf course. ESPN is also reporting it's official, but no link is up yet. UPDATE: ESPN's got it. ESPN.com's Andy Katz reported on Monday that the deal would be for eight years and approximately $35 million dollars, making Calipari the highest-paid coach in the college ranks. UK has got its man. ... Read More

BREAKING: WHBQ in Memphis Reports Cal to UK (UPDATE: Confirmed)

Update: 6:35 p.m. ET: WHAS has reported that Calipari has accepted the job at Kentucky. WLEX has confirmed that report. It's all over but the press conference. Update, 3:43 p.m. ET: News is now starting to permeate that Memphis has asked permission to speak with Missouri's Mike Anderson. That's as much of a surrender outside of a direct quote from anyone that you could ask for right now. A source from ... Read More

John Calipari has reportedly met and talked with Memphis' players. "While Calipari did not say explicitly what he planned to do, players left the meeting convinced that Calipari would take the job. Calipari to Kentucky?

Calipari to Kentucky?

The rumors are swirling. The photoshopping connoisseurs have put together this terrific photo. Larry Vaught is the reporter who seems to have the only quasi-answers right now, and he addresses the possibilities of Cal to UK here, but you need a membership to Scout.com to read it. Vaught also went on Kentucky Sports Radio and declared a meeting with Calipari and Kentucky has or will be happening soon. Matt Jones of Kentucky ... Read More

Calipari Yet to Cry Over Title Game Loss

Calipari Yet to Cry Over Title Game Loss

A lot of people don't seem to like the guy. I can see why, but I've never had an issue. Anyway, he was on PTI yesterday and he talked about Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley, his NBA coaching days of past and the dimly possible future. Around the 1:00 remaining mark, he takes all the blame for the loss. ... Read More

Calipari Can Eat Some Crow Now

Calipari Can Eat Some Crow Now

It's going to be, or has become, a trend on the Blogosphere to bring up John Calipari's defiance about the importance of free throw shooting. I was inundated at work today and I promise I'll have plenty of college hoops goodness to fill up your stomach for post-Tournament coverage. Anyway, I'd like to point out that, back on Feb. 22, I put up this video before all of this Memphis ... Read More

John Calipari Doesn’t Need the Charity

John Calipari Doesn’t Need the Charity

I'm sick of tugging at the carrot in Bloomington and waiting for this damn press conference. So we've got that big game tomorrow night in Memphis...here's John Calipari admitting his commitment to the free throw line. I (seriously) appreciate the honesty. Harken back to these words if they lose on Tennessee on Saturday night. Also put that away until you see who you've got Memphis going up against in the later ... Read More

Two Nationally Relevant Teams Will Play Each Other Tonight

Two Nationally Relevant Teams Will Play Each Other Tonight

Those two dapper gentlemen feature above are, of course, John Calipari and Jim Calhoun. Their Memphis and Connecticut teams will face each other tonight at approximately 8:30 ET on ESPN2. Although UConn isn't currently ranked, a win over Memphis would certainly vault them into the Top 25. I'm just hoping for a lot of up-and-down tempo and for Vitale to bust a gasket. I guess those two things are guaranteed. ... Read More

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Published On Saturday, March 13th 2010

I get the feeling SEC coaches have purposefully gone after Cousins to try and get him to snap. That's not to say I think Bruce Pearl directly told Goins, "Hey, if you get a chance, throw a fist into DeMarcus' crotch," but I don't think coaches have shied away from telling their team that he's a hot head who will crack if you give him reason to.

Another weak, only-verbal punishment, this time handed out by the WAC

You know, I'm not saying we have to fine coaches every time or make them sit out a game, but now we're starting to see a bit of an unwanted pattern with coaches being "punished" by way of a short-but-sweet press release put out via said coach's conference Web site.
