Kalin Lucas is in Mateen Cleaves territory? Not quite

Kalin Lucas is in Mateen Cleaves territory? Not quite

Hey, I love me some Kalin Lucas. I think he's just about everything Scottie Reynolds claims to be. But is he in Mateen Cleaves' league?

2009 National Championship Game Live Blog

2009 National Championship Game Live Blog

Love this photo. Paul Sancya of the Associated Press got the shot Saturday night. The game is nearly here. Some things to eye: • Will Lucas be guarding Lawson? Would love to see this. Lucas is a future pro, and I wonder if this one-on-one will be more balanced than it appears at first glance. Carolina • UNC and the 3's. The Heels have been ridiculous from behind the arc. It's imperative that ... Read More

Tyler Hansbrough’s Chance to Complete The Greatest College Career Ever

Tyler Hansbrough’s Chance to Complete The Greatest College Career Ever

Don't think that post title is hyperbolic, because if UNC wins, it's going to be considered, outside of any UCLA-era achievements, the greatest career any player has ever had. So stew on that. The pot-hole-littered road to the Final Four ends tonight, and that metaphor fits no better than now, as The Dance ends in the Motor City. I'm not sad; it'll be nice to have a little time off, and I've got ... Read More

Epic Riots in East Lansing Tonight?

Epic Riots in East Lansing Tonight?

Because that's one way to get rid of the tons of garbage that's polluting the state. And I'm not talking Michigan fans. OK, that was low. But I am rooting for Michigan State to take it tonight. It'd trump, regardless of how big or small the margin of victory, last year's epic final between Kansas and Memphis because of the significance. No, this game isn't going to save Michigan from all its troubles. But ... Read More

Michigan State-UConn Live Blog

Michigan State-UConn Live Blog

Sorry the site's been low on updates this week. Real life called, and I didn't have much time to update. Ah, who am I kidding? No one's going to be following this live. But this is as much therapy for me, knowing we'll lose college hoops for seventh months in 50 hours. I'm pulling for the underdogs, but I'll go with Michigan State and UNC as the winning teams. 6:08: UConn seems ... Read More

Five Reasons Why Michigan State Won’t Win It All

Five Reasons Why Michigan State Won’t Win It All

1) Because the home field thing is overrated. Yes, MSU should have the biggest draw at the Final Four, but this isn't being played in Breslin. It's a massive football field that will have as many empty seats and filled ones. 2) Because this is the only Final Four team without an alpha. Kalin Lucas is stepping up and doing his best Mateen Cleaves impression in some respects, but has he ... Read More

Sweet 16 Preview: Michigan State-Kansas

Sweet 16 Preview: Michigan State-Kansas

What to Look For: Guard play under pressure. I can't decide of Kalin Lucas is closer to Damon Stoudamire or Saul Smith. Lucas has looked really, really rough in certain spots this year. Sherron Collins is now the crafty veteran, so it could be interesting to see a possible disparity between the two. Then again, Collins is no sure bet. It's probably the most underwhelming game you could imagine between two ... Read More

Your Weekly Brent Musberger Lusting For Erin Andrews Update

Your Weekly Brent Musberger Lusting For Erin Andrews Update

All the typical references: Drinking, MySpace, Lavin putting his two cents in on Andrews' ratings contribution and, of course, Musberger ogling at Andrews from his computer after midnight. I don't know what the hell a pepper pot is, but thank you for the lexicon, Lavin. Someone explain to me why these two co-ed chasers aren't replacing Shulman and Vitale for ESPN's Saturday night primetime game. ... Read More

Hey, Wouldn’t You Know, We Have Our First Meeting Between Ranked Teams Tonight

Hey, Wouldn’t You Know, We Have Our First Meeting Between Ranked Teams Tonight

Sorry for the long headline, but I really wanted to get the message across. Take a second to glance at the athletic prowess of UCLA's Kevin Love, as it is depicted so well in the picture above. Yes, Michigan State will battle a Darren Collison-less UCLA team tonight at 10 p.m. ET on "the deuce" as they used to call it. It seems that Michigan State might be a little ... Read More

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Published On Saturday, March 13th 2010

I get the feeling SEC coaches have purposefully gone after Cousins to try and get him to snap. That's not to say I think Bruce Pearl directly told Goins, "Hey, if you get a chance, throw a fist into DeMarcus' crotch," but I don't think coaches have shied away from telling their team that he's a hot head who will crack if you give him reason to.

Another weak, only-verbal punishment, this time handed out by the WAC

Another weak, only-verbal punishment, this time handed out by the WAC

Published On Wednesday, March 10th 2010

You know, I'm not saying we have to fine coaches every time or make them sit out a game, but now we're starting to see a bit of an unwanted pattern with coaches being "punished" by way of a short-but-sweet press release put out via said coach's conference Web site.
