On Fraud Alert: Duke

On Fraud Alert: Duke

We're not even to Thanksgiving and the Blue Devils appear to be overrated. The Rhode Island Rams took No. 8 Duke to the wire, losing 82-79 in Cameron Indoor a few minutes ago. Duke has now won 62 consecutive non-conference games at home, dating back to when they fell to St. John's in 2000. Too much of a knee-jerk reaction here? I don't know. It appears, more and more, that Coach K has ... Read More

“You Know What Really Grinds My Gears?”

“You Know What Really Grinds My Gears?”

I told you about my former college buddy who is a die-hard URI fan (though we both attended a D-III school in southwest Connecticut). Well, he (Justin) decided to take a trip to the Family Guy State on Monday and catch both the G'Town-Providence and Xavier-Rhode Island tilts. I asked him to bring a camera to capture the event so vividly and enable me to share his experiences with ... Read More

See, This Is What Happens When Crappy Teams Get Good: Everybody Loses

See, This Is What Happens When Crappy Teams Get Good: Everybody Loses

There's a great game tonight between Rhode Island and Dayton, but will we see it? Nah, they're playing at 7 p.m. (Eastern Time, of course!), and it'll be a tubular experience only for those in local markets. So I guess we'll just wait for the 26-second highlight on the 11 p.m. SportsCenter, in which Scott Van Pelt will remind us all of his in-depth knowledge of the college game ... Read More

The Rub on Rhode Island

The Rub on Rhode Island

They are 10-1. Their campus is located in a town called Kingston. They reside in the as-yet-to-receive-love-nationally Atlantic 10. As of the time of this post, they are not ranked nationally in either poll. Nevertheless, the Rams from Rhode Island are scorching hot into the month of December and have left their imprint on many an opponent. A quick breakdown of who they are, who they've beaten, ... Read More

The Smallest State May Have the Best Game Tonight

The Smallest State May Have the Best Game Tonight

I'll make this quick: Both Providence and Rhode Island are Tournament-type teams this season and tonight the two will face each other in Kingston in a Battle Royal (well, I hope, anyway) type of game. This is exactly the type of matchup that gets Andy Katz's voice to jump an octave whenever anyone brings it up, so you know that it's really something. The Friars are currently 5-1 with wins ... Read More

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Goins’ groin shot on Cousins

Published On Saturday, March 13th 2010

I get the feeling SEC coaches have purposefully gone after Cousins to try and get him to snap. That's not to say I think Bruce Pearl directly told Goins, "Hey, if you get a chance, throw a fist into DeMarcus' crotch," but I don't think coaches have shied away from telling their team that he's a hot head who will crack if you give him reason to.

Another weak, only-verbal punishment, this time handed out by the WAC

Another weak, only-verbal punishment, this time handed out by the WAC

Published On Wednesday, March 10th 2010

You know, I'm not saying we have to fine coaches every time or make them sit out a game, but now we're starting to see a bit of an unwanted pattern with coaches being "punished" by way of a short-but-sweet press release put out via said coach's conference Web site.
